I don't remember too much when I watched Fantasy Island as a young lad in the early 1980's, but what I do remember is that it rivaled the Love Boat, at least in my mind. I have a feeling they were televised the same night a few decades ago and that Fantasy Island had a couple of creepy hosts, namely Mr. Rourke and Tattoo, the annoying dwarf who mumbled most of the time. As far as I know, this hasn't been released to DVD as of yet, but after watching Fantasy Island on tvland recently, I actually enjoy the show, especially the has-been actors of the day, including Carol Lynley, Robert Reed, Zsa Zsa Gabor, etc... I enjoy some of the darker episodes, especially the one about the vampire, who's portrayed by Reed, who looks exactly like Mike Schmidt. I give the show credit for being innovative and having a darker edge; more so than the fluffy Love Boat, even though I enjoyed that show as well. I can see myself purchasing some DVD's of both shows, and reliving those nights when I was too young to stay out late and "forced" to watch fluffy TV at a time when we had no cable nor a vcr just yet.
