Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

None.

Violence & Gore

Early in the film, the character "Luke" returns to his home and clearly sees the burned and smoking bodies of his Aunt and Uncle. There are numerous scenes of gunplay, all of which leave no visible wounds. Numerous characters die in the space battle sequence near the end of the film, some of them are shown at the moment their craft explode. Early in the picture, the character "Obi-Wan Kenbi" cuts off the arm of an attacker with his lightsaber. In this scene , the severed arm is shown with some blood around it. In subsequent sequences of lightsaber combat, the effects are bloodless. The character "Darth Vader" is shown to strangle a man half to death using the Force, and later decapitates Kenobi, though Kenobi's body disappears at the moment of death. The character "Han Solo" is involved in a shooting early on in the film, when he shoots a gangster looking to capture him (in pre-1997 cuts of the film, Han is shown to shoot before the gangster has made any indication of being about to fire, later cuts soften this to Han responding in self-defense after being fired upon). The heroes shoot numerous objects in a jail reception center.

Profanity

2 hells and 2 damns.

There is a scene early on in the film set at a bar. Numerous characters are drinking unidentified beverages, presumed to be alcoholic. One character in the scene is seen smoking a hookha, another appears to be smoking a cigarette on a holder.

Luke and company end up in a garbage dump that poses two threats. First, a creature lurks under the floating garbage and then attacks and pulls Luke under. Second, the walls of the giant trash compactor begin squeezing in and its all the group can do to survive.
