Richard Lerner, a producer on the original "The Cheerleaders", sits in the directors' chair for this wild 'n' raunchy follow-up. Our five lovely cheerleaders (Jerii Woods, Helen Lang, Patrice Rohmer, Susie Elene, and a visibly pregnant Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith) figure prominently in the student body of Aloha High School. And what a place of "learning" this place is. Chaos rules the day, and it's not even organized chaos. Their school, under fire for its lack of morality, is threatened with being merged with Lincoln Vocational - their rivals, wouldn't you know it. And what's more, the school is also threatened with extinction by a conniving developer.
"Revenge of the Cheerleaders" is cheerful, lively stupidity. It successfully delivers a fair number of laughs, not holding anything back. A sequence where virtually everyone in sight is getting stoned on a special spaghetti sauce recipe is truly crazed, although it does go on a little long. Large and hearty doses of sex and nudity rule the day, and the cheerleading honeys certainly do look good sans clothes. To even things out, there's even some male nudity in addition to the female nudity. There's plenty of catchy music to further enliven these proceedings, and watching some of the dance moves - from the dudes, anyway - is simply priceless. It all builds to an appreciably high energy, farcical climax.
Eddra Gale as corpulent Nurse Beam and William Bramley as developer Walter Hartlander make for a fine pair of antagonists whom we can enjoy booing as we root for the cheerleaders to defeat them. Comic Carl Ballantine is a flamboyant hoot in a cameo as Dr. Ivory, and Patrick Wright, who'd played the Coach in the first film, appears as a policeman here. But it's going to go without saying that the curiosity among this cast is a young David Hasselhoff, long before the days of 'Baywatch' or even 'Knight Rider', actually baring all and subjecting us to a hilarious display of disco dancing.
This is very amiable, very sexy cinematic trash. Put simply, it's just too hard to resist.
