Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.

There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone »

The much anticipated Batman: The Brave and the Bold musical episode featuring Neil Patrick Harris titled "Mayhem of the Music Meister!" finally aired in the Us this past weekend. It was, in a word, hysterical. Not to mention sporting some very catchy tunes, as well. It's official: every show on television needs a musical episode where Neil Patrick Harris guest stars, because this one proved to be fantastic.

Box Office - 'Jennifer's Body' Eaten Alive on Friday

The only bad news for any new release this weekend seems to be directed at Jennifer's Body, the new horror dark comedy starring Megan Fox. Estimated to make about $12 - $15 million this weekend, the movie got off to a very slow start on Friday, earning only $2.8 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

Horror movies generally start fast and fade quickly. The majority of them show signs of decline beginning on day two, and if that holds true for Jennifer's Body, then this film might make about 40 - 50% of the opening weekend projections. So much for Megan Fox moving tickets on her own.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs led the Friday box office easily, which is no surprise. Based on its $8.1 million debut, Meatballs should be headed toward $25 million or so this weekend. You'd think Sony would want more from its animated film, because that's not a very competitive number »

I could never decide if I consider Tobe Hooper a hack or not. I know a lot of his films are flawed, but for some reason I always find myself watching movies like Eaten Alive and Lifeforce over and over. I'm kind of obsessed with a lot of stuff he has done, and never thought I would say I would be interested in seeing a remake of any of his films. However, after reading Dean Koontz's version of The Funhouse, I realized how much better that movie could have been. So when I read Eli Roth's idea on how he would want to remake it I was instantly sold. »

Wrong Turn 3 director Declan O’Brien will be previewing his new Fox DVD splatter sequel at the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. O’Brien (pictured below with friend), the director of the Sci Fi Channel original movies Rock Monster, Monster Ark and Cyclops, will debut exclusive clips from Wrong Turn 3 (about another group of lost travelers facing off against inbred hillbilly maniacs) at the convention on Sunday.

In addition to his directing chores, O’Brien has also scripted Harpies, The Snake King and Savage Planet for Sci Fi. Stop by this site again over the next couple of days as we begin posting the full schedules (auditorium panels and film programs) for the Fango show.

30 Days Of Night actor Ben Foster (pictured below), star of the upcoming sci-fi thriller Pandorum, has joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. Monster metalheads Gwar will be invading the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. Bandmates Sleazy P. Martini, Slave, Jizmak Da Gusha and Oderus Urungus will be on hand all three days (at their “human skin” booth), and host a panel on Sunday in their human guises (Don Drakulich, Matt Maguire, Brad Roberts and Dave Brockie).

Friday The 13th’s Mrs. Voorhees, actress Betsy Palmer, and her “son,” Jason actor Kane Hodder from the series’ seventh through 10th installments, have joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The event will be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. Fan favorite Palmer also appeared in The Fear: Resurrection and Bryan Norton’s Penny Dreadful, while Hodder stalked through Hatchet, B.T.K. Trick ’R Treat writer/director Michael Dougherty (pictured below) has joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The event will be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. Dougherty, co-scripter of Superman Returns, X2 and Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, made his directorial debut on Trick ’R Treat, an anthology that has garnered raves on the festival circuit and will debut on DVD this fall.

Hellboy movies director Guillermo del Toro has joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The event will be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. One of the most celebrated genre directors of our time, del Toro will be appearing at the convention on Friday (5 to 7 p.m. only) for an exclusive stage appearance and to sign copies of his first novel, the vampire epic The Strain: Book One Of The Strain (coming June 2 from William Morrow), with co-author Chuck Hogan.

Prong mainman Tommy Victor, who was recently interviewed by Fangoria (read it here) will be appearing at Fangoria's Weekend Of Horrors in Los Angeles, April 17-19, 2009. Victor, who recently toured with both Ministry and Danzig, will see the release of Prong's Power Of The Damn Mixxxer (read our review) on May 12th, 2009 via 13th Planet Records.

Tommy will be appearing at the Schecter Guitar Research booth for signing sessions throughout the weekend, along with Skumlove, who's new album The Church Of The New Perversion was recently recorded and co-written with Victor.
