According to actor Englund, the Japanese version inserted some hard-core shots (obviously not performed by the original actors) into two of his scenes.
The film received notoriety in the UK after being withdrawn as a member of the infamous DPP List of video nasties. The eventual video release in 1992 was the same as the cut cinema version with 25 secs of BBFC edits to the scythe murder of Harvey, the sex scene between Buck and Clara, and shots of Faye being beaten by Judd as her young daughter watches. In 2000 the film was passed completely uncut by the BBFC.
The film is usually known as 'Death Trap' in the UK (probably to avoid confusion with Umberto Lenzi's 'Eaten Alive' (Mangiati Vivi (1980). The uncut pre-VRA video, the 1990s video which is cut by 25s and the 2000 uncut DVD (all by Vipco) retain this title. The 2008 DVD by Video International is uncut, under the title 'Eaten Alive'.
