(1975-1976) See the original Not Ready For Prime Time Players evolve through the debut season of Saturday Night Live, begining as a scruffy, rough and tumble comedy ensemble and transforming into a versatile ensemble in increasingly creative sketches. Chevy Chase dominates the cast, which includes Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Gilda Radner, and their honorary sidekick, announcer Don Pardo. This DVD has been mastered from thirty year old video tapes (it was a live show, after all) so don't expect the kind of clarity and sharpness of modern TV sets. Buck Henry, Elliot Gould, and Candice Bergen host two shows apiece this season, while other guest hosts include George Carlin, Paul Simon, Lily Tomlin, Madeline Kahn, and Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, and musical guests include a Simon and Garfunkel reunion, Jimmy Cliff, Patti smith, Phoebe Snow, Abba (!), and Gordon Lightfoot. The complete, uncut shows have not been seen in their entirety in decades.
