  • Continuity: The Monster is in two different locations on the operating table in the two shots prior to getting off the table.

  • Continuity: As the townspeople gather to storm the castle, the clock in the town square shows 10:30. When the Inspector steps out of the building to address them, the clock over his shoulder shows 10:00 PM.

  • Revealing mistakes: Gene Wilder barely stifles genuine laughter at several points.

  • Continuity: In the dart throwing scene the first dart lands in a "7" space and the rest near the bullseye. After a cut-away, the dart in the "7" spot is missing.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Frankenstein first opens the door to the monster-making room, the rusted handle breaks into two pieces, but when he throws them down, only one piece can be heard hitting the floor.

  • Revealing mistakes: In the classroom Frankenstein sticks a scalpel into his leg. A thick pad is clearly visible under his trouser leg, covering the whole top of his thigh.

  • Continuity: During Dr. Frankenstein's lecture, the drawing of the brainstem changes by the end of the scene.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Gerhard Falkstein meets Dr. Frankenstein in his class, he refers to Baron von Frankenstein as his great-grandfather, while the rest of the film refers to him as the grandfather. However, it is stated later in the film (most notably in the deleted sequence "The Reading Of The Will") that the Frankenstein who's will is being read is the Great-Grandfather, and the infamous Victor Frankenstein is his son, or Fredrick's Grandfather.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the Monster cries in the cell with Dr. Frankenstein, you can see the reflection of light off his "missing teeth" that have been blackened.

  • Continuity: When Frederick discovers the private library, one shot is a close-up of the cigar in the ashtray. In the next shot, the cigar is in Inga's hand.

  • Plot holes: When the monster visits the blind man's cottage, he is not afraid of the burning fire cooking the soup or the candle on the table. Later, the Creature is detained for hours in a cell with a torch burning on the wall, without freaking out. Yet he suddenly panics when the guard taunts him with a small match.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Frau Blucher is playing the violin to soothe the monster, her fingers stay in the same position the whole time she is playing, yet the music changes even while her fingers are in plain sight

  • Continuity: As Frau Blucher frees the Monster from the operating table, she caresses the top of his head with her right hand, but in the inserted shot of the Monster's head from her POV her hand is not there.

  • Revealing mistakes: Before the monster has fully put his weight upon the see-saw, you can see Helga begin to be lifted off of her seat.

  • Revealing mistakes: In the opening "coffin" scene, the ruffle under the coffin flutters as the camera backs up past it.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: (Possily intentional) The candle that operates the bookcase door goes out momentarily, and then comes back on, before Frankenstein and the assistant go down the passageway.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: (No doubt intentional) When playing darts, only two go out the window. Yet at least three darts are in each tire, plus others in the spare and the driver's helmet.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the Creature is walking backwards and forwards in the neurology demonstration, it is clear that he is wearing platform shoes.

  • Continuity: Inga is told, "Close your robe and follow me" but in between the the stairs and the secret chamber Inga's robe disappears.

  • Revealing mistakes: Right before Frankenstein goes up to the top of the tower to animate the monster, you can see the monster's chest move up and down.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Igor, Inga, and Dr. Frankenstein go to catch the monster for the first time, they try to inject him with a sedative. Before she injects him, she squirts a little out the top to make sure no air is in the needle, but when she sticks him with the needle, she does not inject anything. In fact, when she pulls the needle back out, she squirts more sedative onto the ground.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: The film is set in a mythological German-English "Transylvania," not a realistic depiction of the eponymous, 30,000 square-mile, Hungarian-Romanian province. In reality there would not be a single "Transylvania station" for trains, but would be many towns, each with their own station. But the movie's Transylvania is an imaginary land with imaginary people that Mel Brooks makes up, even though he uses a real place's name for it.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: In the chase scene in the woods the Police Inspector's prosthetic arm "switches" from right to left. This was an intentional joke, much like Igor's hump.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Igor enters the "Brain Depositary", there is a keyhole in the door but no corresponding bolt is visible when the door opens.
