I worked for KSD-TV (now KSDK) in St. Louis at the time of the making of the movie (made for television by NBC) and later on the series. This film was made as a "biography" of David. After college (he majored in education), David spent a short time as a pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals before injuring his shoulder. This ended his career with baseball and he went on to his original career.... and started teaching math in a Webster Groves high school. Later, he started sports announcing with KMOX (CBS) which helped lead him into a movie career.
The house used in the movie and series was rented from the "new" owners as this was the home he lived in! To say the least, David was a joy to work with.
