Awesome Japanse exploitation classic, 8 February 2008
9/10

I had looked forward for a while to seeing this and it did not disappoint. The story has good good amount of intrigue and twists and turns, keeping things constantly interesting. The acting ranges from good in the case of Reiko Ike, but pretty poor in the case of Christina Lindberg. The rest of the cast fall between these two poles. The sex and violence aspects of the film are plentiful, though the violence leaves something to be desired. It could have done with a littl more realism (too many swords being obviously held in place by dying extras) and maybe more savagery, in a Lone Wolf and Cub style. There is also more sex than violence and I would have kinda preferred an equal amount of both. However, the film is energetic, frequently jaw droppingly great, beautifully directed and photographed filled with beautiful women. It could have done without the idiotic bits of humour and could certainly have done with being a little more sensible at times, for places do seem faintly ludicrous, if still entertaining, but is still a thoroughly gnarly landmark in cult exploitation world cinema.
