• This was DeForest Kelley's last non-"Star Trek" film.
  
  
• As a promotional piece of memorabilia for the film lucky rabbits feet complete with red paint ("blood") on the toes were distributed.
  
  
• The killer rabbit effects were created mostly by normal sized rabbits running around on miniature sets, though for some attack scenes a guy in a rabbit suit was used.
  
  
• In an interview with film historian Tom Weaver star Janet Leigh said in regards to Night of the Lepus, "I've forgotten as much as I could about that picture." Leigh also went on record saying her reason for taking a role in the film was simply because it was closer to her home in California and meant less time away from her family.
  
  
• The marketers for the film feared that if audiences found out the film was about giant killer rabbits too quickly that no one would take the film seriously. In an attempt to keep ambiguity the poster art for Night of the Lepus didn't feature any rabbits.
  
  
• The films original title was 'Rabbits', but MGM felt the title didn't suit a horror film at all so it was re-named the more sinister title Night of the Lepus.
  
  
• 'Lepus' is the Latin term for rabbit.
