One of the most outrageous horror films ever made. That said, it must be understood that ALABAMA'S GHOST will be entirely appealing to a select few....anyone else will surely find it unwatchable.
The bizarre story concerns Alabama, a black jazz musician in San Francisco, who discovers, by chance, the hidden bounty of a famous magician. Among the relics is a confection which had been used in scientific Nazi experiments, and is still being sought by an underbelly society of groovy, rock-concert producing vampires. These creatures of the night(and day)learn of Alabama's discovery, and use him as a scapegoat in a sinister world-domination plot. There's much more to the story...but I'll refrain from minute detailing, with encouragement to seek out and view this insane, one-of-a-kind film.
As with the director's other projects, ALABAMA'S GHOST is well presented, and is far more technically polished than the material at hand deserves. There are well-defined characters, decent performances, and acceptable effects for the time. To think that such proficient handling went into the crafting of this truly gonzo movie is perplexing...but, hey....auteur Hobbs did it again with GODMONSTER OF Indian FLATS(an equally enjoyable freak-scene).
One of cinema's genuine oddities...and for only the most...erm...distinguished palates.
