Four disc box set, featuring the DVD debuts of three Robert Altman films of the late seventies. A Wedding (1978) is one of Altman's trademark comedies featuring a massive cast swirling around a singular event, in this case the marriage of a blushing bride (Amy Stryker) and a charming rogue (Desi Arnaz Jr.). Carol Burnett and Paul Dooley are the proud (and slightly dubious) parents of the bride, Mia Farrow the not-so-blushing bridesmaid, Vittorio Gassman and Nina Van Pallandt give away the groom, and Lillian Gish the grandmother slowly expiring upstairs, just a slice of the 48 characters circling the film. Geraldine Chaplin, Howard Duff, John Cromwell,Lauren Hutton, Pat McCormick, Dina Merrill, John Considine and Viveca Lindfors are some of the others. The more intimate A Perfect Couple (1979) is a minor but sweetly offbeat romantic comedy about the unlikely romance between a young rock singer (Marta Heflin) and a middle-aged businessman (Paul Dooley) who meet through a computer dating service and connect despite their differences. Henry Gibson co-stars. Quintet (1979), Altman's sole venture into science fiction, is a pretentious allegory that even his defenders have a hard time defenders. Paul Newman, Bibi Andersson, Fernando Rey, Vittorio Gassman, Brigitte Fossey and Nina Van Pallandt star. The set is rounded out with the single-disc edition of the previously released M*A*S*H (1970), the maverick blast of comic chaos that made Altman an overnight success… after only 15 years in the business.
