From the director of Carnival of Souls this highly acclaimed film received the academy award for best documentary short of 1969. Leo Beuerman, pride and joy of Lawrence Kansas spends his days repairing watches. We enter Leo's life and spend the next 14 minutes viewing the world through his eyes. The experience is at once uplifting and bizarre. I bought a scratched/spliced 16mm print with bad color at a library discard sale for fifty cents awhile back. It's the sort of film that splices/scratches and bad color only seem to enhance. Much like the original prints of those driver training films from the late fifties that were still getting shown in the late seventies. I enjoyed this film because it allowed me an unwanted opportunity to temporarily sink into a creative depression from which nothing productive resulted other than a keen understanding of how fragile precious life really is. God bless the residents of Lawrence Kansas who to this day celebrate the life of Leo with special screenings of this great film after the funny car parade.
