See Night of the Living Dead: Reanimated This Weekend on Facebook

4 hours ago | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Under the auspices of the Facebook Comic-Con (a free virtual convention occurring through the architecture of Facebook), Night of the Living Dead: Reanimated (Notld:r) will be screening in its entirety from November 12th-15th.

Here are the details:

For this screening the Notld:r event page on Facebook (typically just used to announce the time and place of real world events) doubles as the venue, and those "attending" the event will be able to view the entire feature-length project for free from the comfort of their own homes... well before its official release.

As a reminder, Notld:r is a video-based art show. Artists, illustrators, and animators from around the world were invited to select scenes from the original film and make them their own. With no restrictions on style, media, or process, the resulting works ranged from oil paintings to comic illustrations and sock puppets to digital animation. These works »

The Video Dead (Almost) on DVD

5 hours ago | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

You remember the VHS cover: a zombie, clawing its way out of a TV set. And that title? Totally 80’s, totally in blue neon with drippy, gruesome, haunted house lettering: The Video Dead, my friends. Heck it used to be on USA every Saturday growing up, hawked by Rhonda Shear or Commander USA. Well, as you know, it’s not on DVD ... yet.

Cut to: Mr. Chris MacGibbon — ghoul about town, trying to do the right thing, giving us another shot of 80’s zombies, finally. I had the pleasure of throwing a few questions Chris’ way and if we all play our cards right, we’ll be slipping The Video Dead right next to our copies of Humaniods From the Deep. Why? Because we can, and we’ll have Chris to thank for it.

Heather Buckley: When was the first time you watched The Video Dead?

Chris MacGibbon: I first »

Night of The Living Dead: Reanimated Virtual Premiere

16 hours ago | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Seems like there's always a few Night Of The Living Dead projects in the works. One that we reported on a while back was Night Of The Living Dead: Reanimated , an on-line presentation of artists taking scenes from George Romero's classic and 'reanimating' them through processes ranging from CGI to puppetry and oil paintings to tattoos. When can you see it? It's screening now between November 12-15th, 2009 as part of the Facebook Comic-Con (a free virtual convention occurring through the architecture of facebook). For this screening the event page doubles as the venue and those 'attending' the event will be able to view the entire feature length project for free from the comfort of their own homes... well before it's official release. Women’S Studies trims down, seeks new home

10 November 2009 10:32 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Lonnie Martin and Cindy Marie Martin of Ningen Manga Productions dropped us a line with an update on Women’S Studies, the feminism-oriented fright feature that, at last report, was slated to hit DVD this year. Lonnie, who wrote and directed the movie, reveals why that hasn’t happened—and how the flick has been improved as a result.

“In October 2008, we rendered the services of a sales agent who quickly got us a direct-to-dvd distribution deal,” he tells Fango. “However, due to the economic climate, the company sat on it, giving us a vague ‘fall 2009’ release promise. As we got into this past summer, it become clear that they had lost interest in Women’S Studies. They had a couple of low-budget horror titles with no marquee stars bomb, and decided they didn’t want to release Studies. At that point, we were stuck waiting out various contracts.

10 Most Fascinating 'End of the World' Movies

8 November 2009 4:59 AM, PST | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

There are many theories, ideas or should I say 'schools of thought' on how the world would end. At the height of the Cold War, nuclear annihilation ranks at the very top. While others argue it will not be man who will destroy the world (directly) but - an epidemic of global proportions (most probably from a potent strain of virus - think: I am Legend) or severe climactic change (another ice age perhaps? That would be Day After Tommorow right?) or mechanical uprising (The Terminator, anyone?) or even attack from the outside - conquering aliens (Mars Attacks!) or perhaps an asteroid. And let's not forget zombies!

Free Flick of the Day: Night of the Living Dead

4 November 2009 1:33 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

If there were any justice, George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead (1968) would be counted as one of the great movie debuts of all time. (Yes, up there next to Citizen Kane.) In some quarters it is, but the fact that it's a horror film and the fact that it has languished for decades in the public domain (and many, many cheap, sub-par VHS tapes and DVDs) counts against it. Not to mention that younger zombie fans that come to the movie for the first time will most likely be surprised -- and probably disappointed -- as to how slow and thoughtful it really is. But if you consider things besides gore and terror to be important in your horror movies, then Night of the Living Dead endures, not just as one of the great genre movies of all time, but one of the greatest movies ever made, period. »

WWE Planning Old West Undertaker Origin Movie

4 November 2009 8:50 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

We’ve seen a lot of origin stories in the past few years – Wolverine just came out this summer, Magneto may or may not be happening, there is always Superman and of course Batman’s origin has been told several times. Heck, The Hobbit can even be considered an origin story. Ghost Rider was unfortunately given an origin movie that dated back to the old west. I’m a huge fan of Tremors and the 4th movie went back to the old west as well, for an origin story about the subterranean monster worm.

So I understand why studios and copyright holders want to make origin movies on comic book characters and even monsters, but I cannot for the life of me figure out this latest news coming from “wrastlin” news site Lords of Pain. WWE, in a bid to capitalize on one of their brands, is in the process »

Corbin Bernsen Wants to Make a Zombie Baseball Movie

4 November 2009 2:15 AM, PST | HugAZombie | See recent HugAZombie news »

Corbin Bernsen wants to blend zombies and baseball. Sounds like a joke right? It's not.

Bernsen spoke to Fangoria a week ago at the Worcester, Ma's Rock and Shock convention, where his directorial effort Dead Air was screening, and spoke about the project as a very real possibility.

It's called Three Strikes, You're Dead. I come to these conventions and meet people, and there are two things they like: They enjoy horror, but they're also into the Major League movies I was in. And this is kind of a revenge thing—I heard they're doing Major League 4 and they aren't including my character, and I got kind of pissed off, so I thought, "I'm gonna get 'em back. I'm gonna do a zombie baseball movie."

It's set about 30 years in the future in Pittsburgh—a little tribute to George Romero and Night of the Living Dead. The undead have been »

The War Game (1965) Direction and Screenplay: Peter Watkins Narration: Michael Aspel and Peter Graham     By Dan Schneider of Cosmoetica: For anyone who thinks that those 50-pack mega-dvd sets of public domain films put out by several different video companies are worthless, I would argue that the amount of films you get for the money is worth it, even if all were mediocre, and that the truth is: each DVD package will come with at least 8-10 enjoyable films, a few true classics like Carnival of Souls or Night of the Living Dead, and every so often a great little film will pop up that makes the package a total steal. One such 50-pack I [...] »

The father of the modern zombie returns with Survival of the Dead.

Check out the red-band trailer for the upcoming film. Beware youngsters, this is for mature audiences. In the two minutes, you can witness the zombies doing zombie things like eating people, looking menacing and walking slowly.

Although they are endangering their lives, the locals can’t bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones and are determined to find the cure. When a rebel assassinates his neighbors and friends, they banish him from the island.

Halloween's best TV: Spooky viewing if you're sticking close to home tonight

31 October 2009 10:56 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Maybe you never quite got around to assembling the perfect Peggy Olson costume, and you'd rather stay at home than be seen in last year's Holly Golightly again. Or maybe you'd prefer giving candy to the kiddies to braving the masses of be-costumed drunks. In any case, you need something spooky to watch tonight after dark, and God knows that if you didn't get on the costume thing, you didn't stock up on holiday-appropriate Netflix picks either. Good news: TV is totally on it! AMC concludes its week-long "FearFest" movie marathon with a remastered version of Night of the Living Dead at 8 p. »

If CBS had not revived Medium after NBC snuffed it out last May, fans would have never seen tonight's special Halloween episode in which Allison (Patricia Arquette) is placed into certain scenes of George Romero's classic horror flick Night of the Living Dead. In the sequences, which come to Allison while she's asleep, Arquette takes over the role of Barbara (originally played by Judith O'Dea). Given how frequently Arquette's character lapses into bizarre nightmares though, it would have seemed just as natural for Allison to pop up in Nell or Soul Plane. »
