Jennifer Lopez felt she had "graduated" as a singer when she performed at husband Marc Anthony's 40th birthday party. The 'Love Don't Cost A Thing' hitmaker admits she was nervous about dedicating Barbra Streisand song 'My Man' to Marc but knew she needed to do it to prove her credentials. She said: "I sang a song for Marc's birthday, for his 40th birthday, called 'My Man,' which is an old Barbra Streisand song from 'Funny Girl'. When I sang it, you know, she's so my idol. I was like, 'I cannot believe I am trying to sing a Barbra Streisand song, this is insane! What are you thinking?!' But I sang and it was almost like I had graduated, you

Lea Michele reflects on singing Streisand

I have to admit that from the first time I saw Glee, I loved Lea Michele. The character of Rachel Berry, that "determined to be a star and I don't care who knows it" attitude appealed to me. I recognized that feeling, too, because I remember watching Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl in the movies and having the same feeling of identification. When Streisand finished singing "I'm the Greatest Star" as Fanny Brice, I was convinced. Well, Lea feels it, too. She's a major Streisand fan and she loved singing a Barbra song on Glee.
Every time Lea Michele has had a chance to go diva -- like "Maybe This Time" and "Defying Gravity" -- she's displayed that Streisandesque musical power.
So when the winter finale had the New Directions show choir at sectionals and Rachel stepped up to sing "Don't Rain on My Parade," I was on the edge of my seat.

David Bell explores the life of the star, born Fania Borach, in Fanny Brice: The Real Funny Girl, which has its world premiere production Nov. 10-24 at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Marya Grandy stars as Brice.
For more than 40 years, the comic actress and singer triumphed wherever she appeared - from vaudeville to variety, burlesque to Broadway, the Ziegfeld Follies to film, and, finally, television.
But life wasn't always fun for Brice.
And it was that aspect of Brice's life that Bell wanted to explore in Fanny Brice: The Real Funny Girl.
"I not only wanted to capture the spirit of one of Broadway's most electrifying stars - I wanted to capture some of the spirit of ballyhoo, creativity, genius and flim-flam that made up the Broadway of that era," Bell said.
"Fanny Brice was such an icon," said Andrew Kato, Artistic Director of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.

Other songs in future episodes are taken from two feature films "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from "DreamGirls" and "Don't Rain on My Parade" from "Funny Girl". Jose here to commemorate Fanny Brice's birthday. The extravagant comedienne would've turned 118 today. Yes, seriously, watching her energy in films like The Great Ziegfeld (where she played herself) or listening to her vibrant musical performances it's easy to think that this woman could've lived forever.
A New Yorker born from Hungarian parents, she made a way for herself in the burlesque world and later by her association with Florenz Ziegfeld. She became a huge musical star and a popular radio personality with her Baby Snooks character.
But what remains fascinating about Brice is that she pulled off an enviable career using raw talent. Would someone like her fit in our current notions of what makes an entertainer appealing?
Sure her life was plagued with scandal (her marriage to Nicky Arnstein wasn't as tragically romantic as pop culture has us think) and that would've fit wonderfully in our tabloid loving society.
