Celebrating cinematic folk, born on this day 11/23. Get out your kazoos.
Franco, Maxwell and Harpo. Half of the fun of building these posts
is these completely nonsensical groupings!
1859 Billy the Kid, outlaw. I've always thought it a mystery as to exactly why people routinely idolize characters whom they would never want to meet in real life. Murderers, criminals, thieves, (especially gangsters)... they all get the silver screen pedestal treatment. Billy has been portrayed dozens of times and Val Kilmer, Emilio Estevez, Kris Kristofferson, Buster Crabbe and Paul Newman have all done the job.
1888 Harpo Marx I'm embarrassed to say this but I can never remember which Marx Bros is which. When I watch 30s comedies, I almost always select a screwball romance.
1892 Erté artist over whom wee Nathaniel obsessed, wanting a whole animated movie to spring forth from his theatrical illustrations of ladies in elaborate headdresses and fab gowns.

Today's stars! Well not literally today's but November 18th. Get a little history. Celebrate one of these cinematic entities today in whatever way occurs to you.
Senors Gilbert, Hemmings and Infante
1836 W.S. Gilbert of 'Gilbert & Sullivan' legend. If you've never seen Mike Leigh's exceptional biopic of this creative giant, Topsy-Turvy, drop everything right now and do so.
1908 Imogene Coca beloved comic actress, mostly known for TV roles
1917 Pedro Infante Mexico's biggest movie star ever. Here he is singing. Pedro Almodóvar fans will recognize this one immediately
1939 Margaret Atwood, best-selling much-awarded author. Strangely Hollywood doesn't seem to have taken to her in a big way. The Handmaid's Tale (1990) starring Natasha Richardson is one of the few adaptations
1939 Brenda Vaccaro, Midnight Cowgirl and she of one of the oddest Oscar nominations of all time... seriously, have you seen Once Is Not Enough? Here's StinkyLulu's look at that Oscar year.

I’m beginning to think the gang over at Summit Entertainment has a thing for star-crossed lovers. As you know, they’re the studio that’s bringing you so much “Twilight,” as well as Robert Pattinson’s “Remember Me.” Now they’ve moved on to that other famous young couple, Romeo and Juliet. According to Variety, they have recruited Amanda Seyfried, Gael Garcia Bernal, Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero to star in “Letters to Juliet.”
“Letters” is loosely based on the book by Lise and Ceil Friedman, which collects the real-life letters sent to William Shakespeare’s Juliet. Though she sprang entirely from Shakespeare’s imagination, Verona legend has assigned her a home, a tomb, and a balcony that is popular destination for visitors and weddings. Letters have been sent to Juliet since the Victorian era, but they’ve increased over the years, particularly whenever a new film adaptation comes out. »
