Fun Stuff

Trivia:

William Wyler first considered making this film as a follow up to Roman Holiday (1953); as in that film, Gregory Peck would have played the male lead opposite Audrey Hepburn. At that time he had a darker mood in mind and approached Stanley Kubrick, who had recently made The Killing (1956), to contribute. more

Goofs:

Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When stealing the Cellini Venus Simon Dermot exchanges the Venus with the empty bottle. However as a clever thief he should have worn gloves because his fingerprints were on the bottle. more

Quotes:

Simon Dermott: Why don't you wait till you get it home and steal it then? No muss, no fuss, just a nice clean inside job? I'd be happy to offer my services. more

Bright, Sophisticated, Funny!, 15 May 2004
10/10

This Movie was one of the best Audrey made (not an easy statement to make since she made so many great ones. "How to steal a million" is not as well known as her early works (Roman Holiday for example) or

Breakfast at Tiffany's (Considered by many to be her Signature role). But it is far and away her best comedic work. The Chemistry between Audrey and Peter (O'Toole) is marvelous. The casting in general is good although Eli Walach was not the best choice for the character of Davis Leland. Still, in all, The characters were all believable. The Principals were excellent together and the dialog was bright sophisticated and (did I mention) FUNNY! The antics of the guards in the art museum were a hoot! If you are a fan of either Audrey or Peter this film is a "must-have". I rate it 10 out of 10.
