Fun Stuff

Trivia:
The 1960s street where the opening robbery takes place is the same one on which Wyler and Susan encounter a Dalek patrol over 180 years later (the unchanged Mitchell Real Estate premises and Harris & Son shop are prominent in both sequences). In reality this was part of the backlot at Shepperton. more

The Daleks threaten the Earth, 26 April 2005
8/10
Author: Chris Gaskin from Derby, England

Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 AD is the second of the Dr Who movies starring Peter Cushing. I enjoyed this as much as I did the first, Dr Who and the Daleks.

The Doctor, his youngest grand-daughter, his niece and a copper use the Tardis to travel to the year 2150. When emerge they find London in ruins and what few humans are left are trying to avoid capture by the Daleks. The Doctor and the others start exploring and all split up. A flying saucer lands and the copper and the Doctor's niece end up in it. What the Dalaks do to humans once captured is turn them into the Robomen. Everybody gets reunited at the mine in Bedfordshire where the Daleks plan to use a magnetic bomb to blow up Earth's core and use it as a giant spaceship. The Daleks are eventually defeated after the bomb is diverted and the strong magnetic field causes the flying saucer to crash and explode. The Earth is saved.

This movie has a 1960's jazz music score throughout and the special effects are not too bad.

Now to the cast: as well as Peter Cushing returning, Roberta Tovey reprises her role as Susan, the Doctor's youngest grand-daughter. Jill Curzan plays his niece and Bernard Cribbins (The Railway Children) is the policeman, Tom. The movie also stars Andrew Keir (Quatermass and the Pit), Ray Brooks and Philip Madoc (He is the one who played the German U-boat Captain in the classic Dad's Army episode The Deadly Attachment).

Along with John Pertwee and Tom Baker, I think Peter Cushing is one of the best Dr Who's, although the current Doctor, Christopher Eccleston is good too.

Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 AD is very enjoyable and is worth checking out.

Rating: 4 stars out of 5.
