the secret is bloody horrible!, 7 September 2002
Author: MIKEHILL38 (MIKEHILL38@HOTMAIL.COM) from manchester, england

it's been many moons since i've seen this typically entertaining but hammy hammer effort. it disturbed me when i first saw it on the telly one late saturday night way back in the early 70s when i was a kid though it's probably pretty tame by todays standards. plot involves the horrors that befall a group of british p.o.w. chaps under the strain of a handful of sadistic jap guards led by an unintenionally funny performance by patrick wymark as the commandant complete with an australian accent!? micheal ripper; a regular hammer stalwart who must have had some pretty good mates also provides amusing support as his second in command ("english cigarette?" ugh!). how on earth the barbara shelly character manages to evade recognition as a bird pretending to be a bloke whilst imprisioned with an unlucky or lucky bunch of limey lads is anyones guess (didn't these people ever take showers?).
