Surreal Barry Mahon Sex-Horror Gem!, 29 March 2000
Author: Son of Cathode from New England

A gorilla kills nudist chicks. This is one of exploi-king Barry Mahon's most intriguing yet insipid pieces, a primitive tour de force. Maybe primal is a better word. Everything is so damn generic, from the paper-thin plot to the flashback wraparound to the familiar stock music to the bare sets to the title beast. Its like a monument of non- moviedom. Bad-acting bare women with bad accents predominate, surely the movie's sole reason for existence. Oddly, the men all have to wear shorts in the nudey camp. The best scenes are speculation scenes between various topless chicks, struggling vainly to act as their boobs flop about. The ape man, who appears for no reason at all, seems to be the same suit as later adorned Dave Hewitt's shamefest "The Mighty Gorga". Life at the nudist camp is weird; there is a faux-Tahitian motif which suggests "Gilligan's Island" somehow, and people do square dances and sit around campfires semi-clad, looking bored to tears. And this piece of crap is conveyed via deceptively pleasant, well-scrubbed color photography; too bad its photographing so little. Some of the Mahon trademarks are intact: refusal to shoot anything remotely resembling a close-up; long, painful, improvised dialogue scenes by illiterates, and lots of nubile foreign cuties. As the film progresses, logic becomes entirely peripheral. The finale will leave you with cramps. No logic whatsoever. Amazing badfilm classic: "At first I thought it was some guy in a monkey suit!"
