Deliciously demented early B-grade horror flick that is finally receiving the credit and attention (more than three decades after the fact) that it should have gotten all those years ago when it was first released! Considered scandalous and unfit at the time (even though it was the late 1960's) "Spider Baby" was, regardless of the public's reaction, some of the absolute best ever in schlocky drive-in swill as it was campy, even sexy at times, and surprisingly dark in it's overall tone. The late Lon Chaney Jr. who played the butler, chauffeur and general caregiver to the three nut-job adults thankfully enough never took this film too seriously, even going so far as to sing the theme song to it's creepy and hilarious animated opening sequence. In my opinion if you can find the sucker (no pun intended if you've seen the movie all the way through) somewhere I'd say pick it up and give it a watch. Cult B-movie icon Sid Haig also makes his first real screen appearance here as probably the looniest character in the whole entire film, and to be frank that's saying quite a lot since nearly every single character here is written and acted by all the performers as if they were about three french-fries short of a "Happy Meal". (***** out of *****)
