The Beverly Hillbillies: What Happened in the Last Episode "Jethro Returns"

27 September 2009 2:17 AM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

In 1962, a truly strange TV show hit the airwaves, The Beverly Hillbillies. The sitcom revolves around a poor mountaineer, Jed Clampett (Buddy Ebsen), who discovers oil on his backwoods property. Now a multi-millionaire, he's encouraged to move to Beverly Hills with his spunky mother-in-law, "Granny" (Irene Ryan), beautiful daughter Elly May (Donna Douglas), and dim-witted nephew Jethro (Max Baer). They try to understand their strange new surroundings and are aided by selfish banker Milburn Drysdale (Raymond Bailey) and his bookish secretary, Miss Jane Hathaway (Nancy Kulp).

It may be hard to imagine it now but in its day, The Beverly Hillbillies was a massive hit. Though hated by most critics, several episodes of the series are among the most-watched TV episodes in history, having drawn as much as 44% of the viewing households. A 1964 episode titled "The Giant Jackrabbit" is still the most-watched half-hour program »

Rip Dick Durock

25 September 2009 6:03 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Without a doubt the hardest part of our job reporting on the latest horror news is when one of our own is taken from us. We're very sad to inform you that Dick Durock, best known for his role as the "Swamp Thing", passed away last week at his home in Oak Park, California, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Durock, 72, was the subject of a fond tribute from Erin Blasko of the South Bend Tribune. Excerpts follow:

Born in South Bend in the late 1930s, Richard "Dick" Durock survived an early family tragedy to become a minor Hollywood player and fanboy idol for his role as Swamp Thing in the two feature films and television series of the same name.

Despite his success, he remained a humble Midwesterner at heart.

"He didn't get a big head. He was down-to-earth, very natural," Frank Varrichione, Durock's brother-in-law, said.

Laugh-In's Henry Gibson dead at 73

17 September 2009 12:00 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

For some reason I thought that Henry Gibson was a lot older than 73, but the character actor with the huge resume passed away from cancer at that age yesterday in Malibu.

One of the more famous TV credits on that resume was Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, the influential 60s comedy show that no one under 30 has ever seen. He also appeared in shows like Bewitched, The Beverly Hillbillies, Deep Space Nine, Coach, MacGyver, Evening Shade, Sisters, Newhart, Magnum, P.I., and Simon and Simon.

More recently, TV fans know him from his many appearances as a judge on Boston Legal and his voice work on King of the Hill (he played Bob Jenkins). He was also in several movies, including Magnolia (he played Thurston Howell???), The Nutty Professor, Nashville, The Blues Brothers, Wedding Crashers, and a ton of others.Continue reading Laugh-In's Henry Gibson dead at 73

Veteran Genre Actor Henry Gibson Dies

16 September 2009 3:23 PM, PDT | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

The world on Wednesday was forced to say good-bye to Henry Gibson, the high-pitched voice comedic actor who knew how to light up the screen in almost any role. Gibson died Monday after fighting cancer. He was 73. Young audiences today likely best know Gibson as Judge Clark Brown in the William Shatner star vehicle "Boston Legal," but his resume is quite extensive, especially when it comes to the world of science-fiction. After appearances on "The Joey Bishop Show," "77 Sunset Strip" and "The Beverly Hillbillies," Gibson found some work in the genre as Napoleon in the 1968 "Bewitched" episode "Samantha's Fresh Pastry." He would return two years later as Tim O'Shanter in "If the Shoe Pinches." Making a name for himself in "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," Gibson would appear in a couple »

The Beverly Hillbillies: Will Jethro Finally Get His Mansion and Casino?

28 August 2009 5:39 AM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Like his optimistic character, Jethro Bodine from The Beverly Hillbillies, Max Baer Jr. is continuing to pursue his dream of opening a Hillbillies-themed hotel and casino.

As we first reported in May 2007, Baer secured sublicensing rights to The Beverly Hillbillies from CBS in 1991. He currently sells a number of Hillbillies-inspired cooking sauces and over five dozen Hillbillies-themed slot machines were built and placed in 10 casinos in the late 1990s.

Baer's bigger goal however has been to open a huge resort that's themed around the classic sitcom. For many years, he's had plans to build Jethro Bodine’s Beverly Hillbillies Mansion & Casino -– a getaway featuring a 40,000 square foot gambling area (800 slot machines and 16 gambling tables), a showroom, theater complex, 240 hotel rooms, pools and more.

Hollywood Wax Museum & Hollywood Props Auction

13 April 2009 9:37 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

If you’ve ever been to the Hollywood Wax Museum, you know it’s a rather interesting static display of things cool, memorable, and waxy.

For the first time ever, The Hollywood Wax Museum is offering up over 200 different items for auction. The items aren’t just hand-sculpted wax figures, but they’re also auctioning off some original costumes. These wax figures are the same ones that have been seen by millions of visitors to the Hollywood, CA and Branson, Mo museum locations, since the 1970s to present day.

The Last Supper

The auction will be conducted by the venerable auction house, Profiles in History, who is the world’s leading Hollywood memorabilia dealer.

Cher

Profiles in History have had some cool auctions in the past, but you do need some serious play cash stashed for some of the incredible goodies they auction off.
