According to Frank Sinatra Jr. on the DVD Commentary, Sammy Davis Jr. was forced to stay at a "colored only" hotel during the filming because Las Vega would not allow blacks to stay at the major hotels despite his appearing with Sinatra, Martin, and the others at the Sands Hotel. He was only allowed to stay at the major hotels, therefore breaking Vegas' unofficial color barrier after Frank Sinatra confronted the casino owners on his behalf.

Goofs:

Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Sam first greets Bea, he calls her "Mrs. Oceans". Her last name (and her husband's) is "Ocean" - singular, not plural.

Dig this crazy movie

"Ocean's Eleven" was made back in the movie era when men were men, women were little more than customizing accessories and the Rat Pack was at its peak. It was also a time when movies weren't incessantly analyzed, but enjoyed.

Enjoyment is what this film provides. Ol' Blue Eyes, Sammy, Dino and the rest are in prime form as part of an 11-man commando force plotting to rob several Las Vegas casinos. The film is fast, fun and totally satisfying, all the way to its O. Henry-type ending.

Besides having an interesting plot and actors who don't take themselves too seriously, "Ocean's Eleven" provides an interesting glimpse into the Rat Pack era, when being cool was really hot. In short, if you get into the groove, you can really dig this little number. It's hip, man.
