(1960) Robert Mitchum plays a rural patriarch with big appetites, a bitter, frigid wife (Eleanor Parker), and a sheltered, gentle son (George Hamilton) that he decides to finally make into his definition of a man. Vincente Minnelli directs the hearty, vivid melodrama, George Peppard plays Mitchum's illegitimate son, and Everett Sloane and Luana Patten co-star.

He's at his best as the working class ambulance driver caught in the seductive web spun by scheming rich girl Jean Simmons in Angel Face (1952), Otto Preminger's cool film noir. He teams up with tough-talking dame Jane Russell in Macao (1952) and is marvelous as the Southern patriarch with the booming voice in Home from the Hill (1960), co-starring Eleanor Parker, George Peppard, and George Hamilton.
