| This transfer has the same image width as the Criterion version, but with the matte opened to aprox. 1.66:1. MGM's comment about a stereo soundtrack: "Although the film was not released in stereo, the Bernard Herrmann score was recorded in stereo. However, it is not possible to create a new true stereophonic soundtrack as there are no separate stems for dialogue, music and sound effects. The tracks were built in such a way that the sound effects were mixed together with mono music, they do not exist separately. Therefore, we have inserted the film's title theme into the master in true stereophonic sound, and on the digital tracks the film becomes monaural for the balance of the feature. On the analog tracks the film is presented with synthesized stereo audio created by Chase Productions." |
