Favreau & Downey Jr vs. Cowboys & Aliens

2 September 2009 12:16 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

We’ve been talking about Robert Downey Jr’s possible attachment to Cowboys and Aliens for quite a while. However, it now looks like Downey Jr’s Iron Man director, Jon Favreau, is trying to lasso the directors chair for the film, and if he signs up then it looks like Iron Man himself is all but locked for the picture.

The concept of the film in question is simple - Cowboys versus Aliens. If that doesn’t rock your boat, then it’s time to stop reading!

The film is based on a graphic novel by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, which was written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley. The script for the movie was penned by the high-powered writing combination of Star Trek’s Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, along with Lost’s Damon Lindeloff.

With Iron Man 2 already shot and currently in post-production, it looks like »

Feeling Lucky, Pardner? The Top Ten Clint Eastwood Westerns

7 August 2009 9:01 PM, PDT | amctv.com - Future of Classic: Westerns | See recent amctv.com - Future of Classic: Westerns news »

A squinty cowboy for a more cynical age, Clint Eastwood was the heir to John Wayne's throne as King of the West -- and perhaps the last actor to be so closely associated with the genre. Breaking in his boots on TV's Rawhide, Eastwood went on to redefine the Western with his typical taciturn style and some help from an Italian director named Sergio Leone. Eastwood made about a »

Stars in Rewind: Clint Eastwood in 'Revenge of the Creature'

9 June 2009 6:45 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I'm a little guilty (but perhaps no more than our own Jeff Anderson) of writing too many posts about Clint Eastwood lately, but seeing as Gran Torino comes out on DVD today, and it's slow on news, it's time for a blast from the past. Sure, we could post a clip focused on his iconic sneer and handiness with a gun, but I think his last role deserves to be celebrated by watching his embarrassing first. Take heart, up and coming actors, because everyone starts somewhere.

Look at him, all young and squeaky, with Inspector Callahan and the Man with No Name not even a glimmer in his eye. This is how you know that destiny plays some part in the mess that is Hollywood moviemaking, because he really should have been handed nothing but screwball comedies after this. (Not that he didn't try slapstick at least one more time »

Talkin' Westerns with A.C. Lyles

(A.C. Lyles, below)

by Jon Zelazny

Editor’s note: This article originally appeared at EightMillionStories.com on February 27, 2009

There’s an A.C. Lyles Building at the Paramount Pictures main lot, but you won’t find A.C. Lyles there; his office is on the fourth floor of the William S. Hart Building.

When I arrived for our interview, Mr. Lyles was chatting with some visitors in his outer office. He bid me into his main office, and asked his assistant Pam to put in a video… a short promo reel that opens with a six minute tribute by then-President Ronald Reagan, who warmly recalls his and Nancy’s many years of friendship with A.C. and his wife Martha, and congratulates A.C. on his fifty years at the studio. The President’s intro is followed by taped congratulations from President Carter, President Ford, and Vice President Bush, then assorted clips celebrating Mr. »
