Frederick Loren:
Once, the door is locked, there is no way out. The windows have bars the jail would be proud of and the only door to the outside locks like a vault.
Watson Pritchard:
Only the ghosts in this house are glad we're here.
Watson Pritchard:
[
shows everyone a knife] This is what she used on my brother and her sister, hacked them to pieces. We found parts of their bodies all over the house, in places you wouldn't think. A funny thing is the heads have never been found, hands and feet and things like that, but no heads.
Dr. David Trent:
The wife, probably in a fit of rage, threatened her husband with the knife, and then, carried away by hysteria, took a swing at him and simply went on from there.
Lance Schroeder:
[
laughing] She certainly went on, how many people did she kill, Mr. Pritchard?
Watson Pritchard:
Only two, her husband and her sister, nobody else was here.
Lance Schroeder:
So there are two loose heads just floating around here someplace?
Watson Pritchard:
You can hear them at night, they whisper to each other, and then cry.
Watson Pritchard:
[
opening lines] The ghosts are moving tonight, restless... hungry. May I introduce myself? I'm Watson Pritchard. In just a moment I'll show you the only really haunted house in the world. Since it was built a century ago, seven people including my brother have been murdered in it, since then, I've owned the house. I only spent one night then and when they found me in the morning, I... I was almost dead.
Lance Schroeder:
If I were gonna haunt somebody, this would certainly be the house I'd do it in.
Frederick Loren:
Don't let the ghosts and the ghouls disturb you, love.
Annabelle Loren:
Darling, the only ghoul in the house is you!
Ruth:
Who would want to haunt me?
Frederick Loren:
I would say any self-respecting male ghost.
Frederick Loren:
Mr. Pritchard here promises us genuine ghosts.
Watson Pritchard:
7 now. Maybe more before morning.
Annabelle Loren:
You're in danger here - we all are.
Nora Manning:
From who?
Annabelle Loren:
I hope for your sake you never find out.
Annabelle Loren:
You know, of course, that I'm his fourth wife. The first simply disappeared; the other two died.
Annabelle Loren:
My husband is sometimes insane with jealousy; nothing matters to him!
Lance Schroeder:
Would he hurt you?
Annabelle Loren:
He would kill me if he could.
Frederick Loren:
Would you adore me as much if I were poor? No, all you want to be is a lovely widow.
Frederick Loren:
It's almost time to lock up the house and then your party will really begin. I wonder how it will end...
Annabelle Loren:
Oh, I'm sure we're not going to go running around the house shooting each other, aren't you?
Watson Pritchard:
There's been a murder almost everyplace in this house!
Frederick Loren:
[
to Annabelle] At last you've got it all, everything I had... even my life. But you're not going to live to enjoy it! Come with me, murderess, come with me!
Frederick Loren:
[
posing as his skeleton] Come with me murderess. Come with me.
Frederick Loren:
It's a pity you didn't know when you started your game of murder that I was playing too.
Watson Pritchard:
These guns are no good against the dead. Only the living.
Frederick Loren:
Don't stay up thinking of ways to get rid of me, it makes wrinkles.
Frederick Loren:
I am not such a fool as to hang my wife from the ceiling, by a rope!
Watson Pritchard:
[
looking at blood stain on ceiling] See that stain? Blood. A young girl was killed here... and whatever got her wasn't human.
[
last lines]
Watson Pritchard:
They're coming for me now...
[
looks at camera]
Watson Pritchard:
and then they'll come for you.
Dr. David Trent:
[
Nora has encountered the organ that plays by itself and runs screaming through the house] Did you hear anything?
Frederick Loren:
Organ music?
Dr. David Trent:
That... and someone walking.
[
repeated line]
Frederick Loren:
[
on his wife] She's so amusing.
Frederick Loren:
Pritchard, I've had enough of your spook talk.
Dr. David Trent:
Nora, I think you're a little upset. Would you care for a sedative?
Nora Manning:
Get out! Get out all of you! All of you get out and leave me alone! Just get out of here!
Frederick Loren:
Do you remember the fun we had when you poisoned me?
Annabelle Loren:
[
laughs] Something you ate, the doctor said.
Frederick Loren:
Yes, arsenic on the rocks...
[
grabs Annabelle]
Frederick Loren:
Annabelle, you'd do it again if you thought you'd get away with it, wouldn't you?
Frederick Loren:
[
starts shaking up bottle of champagne]
Annabelle Loren:
Why do you always do that? It spoils the champagne.
Frederick Loren:
It might explode.
Annabelle Loren:
Never does.
Frederick Loren:
Can you guarantee that?
[
aims champagne bottle at Annabelle]
Annabelle Loren:
That isn't funny Frederick.
Frederick Loren:
Make a good headline, playboy kills wife with champagne cork.
Lance Schroeder:
I'm going to my room and if anybody comes in I'll "shoot him."
[
looking at Ruth]
Lance Schroeder:
Or her.
Frederick Loren:
Would you go away for a million dollars tax free
[
Annabelle smiles and shakes her head]
Frederick Loren:
.
Frederick Loren:
Of course not, you want it all don't you.
Annabelle Loren:
I deserve it all, your jealousy isn't tax free and your possessiveness is maddening.
Frederick Loren:
If ever a man had grounds for divorce.
Annabelle Loren:
But can't prove them.
Annabelle Loren:
And you call this a party?
Frederick Loren:
Could be.
Frederick Loren:
What husband hasn't, at some time, wanted to kill his wife? What husband hasn't had a thousand opportunities to do it in such a way so that he'd never be suspected?
Frederick Loren:
I am Frederick Loren, and I have rented the house on haunted hill tonight so that my wife can give a party. She's so amusing. There'll be food and drink and ghosts, and perhaps even a few murders. You're all invited. If any of you will spend the next twelve hours in this house, I will give you each ten thousand dollars, or your next of kin in case you don't survive. Ah, but here come our other guests.
Nora Manning:
Mr. Pritchard, you said your sister-in-law killed a man and a woman here and cut them up?
[
he nods]
Nora Manning:
You said they found hands and feet but they never found any heads.
[
shakes his head]
Nora Manning:
Would you like to see one of those heads?
[
turns to everybody else]
Nora Manning:
Would you all like to see one of those heads? Well then come with me.
Annabelle Loren:
[
about Frederick's previous wives] All his doctors said heart attacks. 2 girls in their 20s. Lance... I don't want to join them.
Jonas Slydes:
[
to Nora] Come with us, come with us before he kills you!
Annabelle Loren:
Dr. Trent, don't you approve of our little party favors?
Dr. David Trent:
Suppose Nora had a gun when she was alone in the cellar with the blind woman?
Ruth:
Oh I don't think anyone else is going to walk around in total darkness.
Annabelle Loren:
Oh I'm sure we're not going to go running around the house shooting each other, aren't you?
Dr. David Trent:
Who knows? Fear can make people do amazing things.
Watson Pritchard:
[
about the guns they're given] These are no good against the dead, only the living.
