Trivia:
In the original Japanese version, the detectives make a big deal out of the fact that Chikako owns a television. At the time this was made, 1958, a television set was still beyond the budget of the typical Japanese family. more
Goofs:
Miscellaneous: In the English subtitled version prepared for the 2009 U.S. DVD release, the subtitles give Kenji Sahara's character's name as "Asada" through most of the film. In the final fourth of the film, the subtitles properly give his name as "Masada." more

Fun movie from the pre-psychedilic age!, 5 March 1999
Author: Jenova Synthesis from Planet Kir&acircku

This is one weird and very interesting movie I've seen from wonderful ol' Toho. It's like a Crime-Noir meets the Sci-Fi/Horror genre. Some things mix, others don't. These genres mix!

My favorite scenes are where dancers and civilians touch the "cursed water"(?) and evaporate, just leaving their clothing. Too bad in the US and UK versions, they cut out the evaporation scenes, because it was considered too "frightening" at the time. I think this is a really awesome movie!
