Six beloved musicals by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II in a 12-disc box set. New editions of Carousel: 50th Anniversary Collection (1956), starring Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones, The King and I: 50th Anniversary Collection (1956), starring Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner, and South Pacific: Collector’s Edition (1958), starring Mitzi Gaynor and Rossano Brazzi, debut in new special editions (see Cult and Classic for more details). The set also features the previously released State Fair: 60th Anniversary Edition (1945), a slice of homsespun Americana written directly for the screen, about a rural family’s adventures at the state fair. The 2-disc set features both the 1954 original with Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, Dick Haymes, Vivian Blaine, and Charles Winniger as the patriarch with a prize pig, and the 1962 remake with Pat Boone, Bobby Darin, Pamela Tiffin, Ann-Margaret, Tom Ewell, and Alice Faye (in her first screen appearance in almost 20 years). Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae star in Oklahoma! 50th Anniversary Edition (1955), co-starring Gloria Grahame, Gene Nelson, Charlotte Greenwood, Eddie Albert, and Rod Steiger as the sulky, hulking farmhand Jud. Fred Zinneman directs and Agnes DeMille choregraphs. The 2-disc set features both the CinemaScope and high-definition Todd-AO versions, which were shot simultaneously but with different takes and separate cameras. Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer star in The Sound of Music: 40th Anniversary Edition (1965), a romanticized take on the true story of the von Trapp Family Singers who rose to fame in Germany during the rise of the Nazis and then escaped the country. It won 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Robert Wise). Each 2-disc set also features commentary, documentaries, archival footage, a sing-along option, and other supplements.

(1956) Oklahoma stars Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones reunite for their second Rodgers & Hammerstein movie musical, this one a somber drama (adapted from the play "Liliom") about a smooth talking carny who impulsively marries a naïve millworker and then is given a chance to redeem himself after he dies in a failed robbery and goes to heaven. The musical, which features the classic "Soliloquy," is the favorite of composer Rodgers. Cameron Mitchell and Barbara Ruick co-star and Henry King directs. Also includes the 1934 French version of the original play Liliom, directed by Fritz Lang and starring Charles Boyer.
