Father-and-son restaurateurs Arrigo and Giuseppe Cipriani revolutionized New York dining and nightlife from the moment they arrived, in 1985, when they opened Harry Cipriani, on Fifth Avenue (it was modeled after Harry’s Bar, the Venice institution founded by Arrigo’s father). But after a 20-plus-year reign, they left America under a cloud in 2008, after having been convicted of tax evasion and accused of having Mafia ties. For his article in the December issue of V.F., "The Trouble with Harry's," contributing editor Mark Seal caught up with the Ciprianis in Europe, where they not only wined and dined him but also answered almost all of his questions. Cinema Retro reader and film historian Bruce Crawford gave us the head's up that he recently collaborated with Robert Osborne on a month-long tribute to composer Bernard Hermann. Films relating to the maestro will be presented every Tuesday in September on TCM. Here is a look at the schedule:

The deeper I delve into writing, the more movies and literature I digest. My biggest obstacle at this point is not finding the material, it’s finding the time to watch it, and the money to purchase it all.
