  • Continuity: Madge's hair length and style during the picnic sequence are considerably shorter than in the rest of the film.

  • Continuity: Toward the end of the film when Hal hops a freight train to Tulsa, he jumps onto a boxcar that has its door shut. He climbs the ladder and stands on top to wave to Madge. In this long shot the boxcar door is now open.

  • Continuity: When Neewollah Queen Madge goes to return the royal robe, she's still wearing the sash as she stands on the footbridge and watches Hal and Millie dancing. When she joins the group seconds later, in that famous clapping scene, the sash is gone.

  • Continuity: After the sunset scene, Madge and Hal are down by the river and there is direct sunlight sparkling on the water.

  • Miscellaneous: Judging from the position of the sun and the bustle of activity in the neighborhood, Boomer is delivering the morning paper (an edition which typically arrives around dawn) shortly before noon.

  • Factual errors: Millie is reading Carson McCullers' "The Ballad of the Sad Cafe," a very thick book she carries around during the early scenes of the movie. In reality, that literary work is a very slim novella that is considerably less than 100 pages long

  • Continuity: Millie sits on the couch and throws an apple core, but in the next cut she is lounging back on the couch.

  • Continuity: When drying off after swimming, a bad edit cut makes Hal's position lose continuity.

  • Continuity: Millie's hair is wet and braided after swimming, but later in the same scene her hair is dry and braided.

  • Continuity: At the picnic, as Hal takes the bottle from Howard, the neck is visible, but when the bottle is in Hal's hand, the neck is not visible.

  • Continuity: The Neewollah president takes his hand off Alan's shoulder twice as he claims the first dance with Madge.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Hal arrives at Howard's house after running from the police, Howard greets him as "Allen" instead of Hal as he runs up the stairs.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Kim Novak is in the swan boat she says "Hi" to William Holden but her lips do not move.

  • Continuity: It is implied that the train seen when Kim Novak is on the bus to Tulsa is the same one that William Holden boarded. The train he boarded was pulled by a diesel locomotive. The train seen in the same frame with the bus is being pulled by a steam locomotive.

  • Continuity: During the picnic while Hal is carrying Millie above his head with one arm, Millie knees are exposed. The next angle scene shows Millie holding her dress below her knees covering her knees.

  • Continuity: Holden's hairstyle changes during the pondside confession scene with Novak.
