  • Jean-Luc Godard's favorite Melville movie. Often claimed it to be the height of French films inspired by American noir.

  • Jean-Pierre Melville auditioned Alain Delon for the character of Paulo. He rejected him for fear he would steal the show.

  • Was a huge influence on the film The Transporter (2002). The criminal and cop relation was directly influenced from this film.

  • Jean Cocteau did an uncredited rewrite of the script at one point for Jean-Pierre Melville. Most of the script was rejected because it focused too much Bob and Paulo's relationship rather then Melville's original intentions.

  • Stanley Kubrick once said in an interview he gave up doing "Crime Films" because Jean-Pierre Melville did the greatest with Bob le flambeur (1956) and Jacques Becker did the second best with Touchez pas au grisbi (1954). He later directed A Clockwork Orange (1971) however stating he never considered it a "crime film", but a socio-political film.

  • Bob drives a stylish 1955 Plymouth Belvedere convertible.
