This week I'm on time and have more than just one movie to discuss as I finally finished watching both Terrence Malick and Paul Weitz's filmography, caught another Christmas film I had not seen and refreshed my memory on a Spielberg sci-fi.

Producer John Breglio and the Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. will bring Broadway uptown for four weeks only with Dreamgirls at the Apollo Theater, prior to the national tour of the new production of the groundbreaking musical. The national tour of Dreamgirls will kick-off at Harlem's legendary Apollo Theater (253 West 125 Street) beginning previews Saturday, November 7, 2009, and opening Sunday, November 22, 2009, for 4 weeks only, through Sunday December, 6, 2009.

Vta Announces Auditions For Broadway Holiday 11/17

Victoria Theatre Association is holding Live auditions November 17 from 4-7:30pm for the opportunity to sing on the Victoria Theatre stage with five Broadway stars in the Miami Valley and Good Samaritan Hospitals Broadway Series presentation of Broadway Holiday this December 8-20, 2009. The auditions will be held in the Mathile Theatre at the Schuster Center. Each applicant must bring his or her own accompaniment or pianist; a CD player and piano will be available. The auditions will be video taped for judging purposes. All applicants must schedule an audition time by calling the Victoria Theatre at (937) 228-7591. No walk-ins.

Victoria Theatre Association will continue to offer online auditions as well. The classic 1944 film Meet Me in St. Louis directed by Vincente Minnelli is so revered that to imagine a stage version of equal prominence is... Here’s a list of some of the new movie and TV shows coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week that we’re looking forward to seeing. Also, there’s some classic, and not-so-classic, movies hitting Blu-ray for the first time this week as well.

What are Your Favorite Winter Holiday Themed Movies?

I wasn't quite sure how to properly word the headline for this post considering I want to make sure you understand I am talking about the season pretty much running from Thanksgiving to Christmas, but I also want to make sure you know the film itself doesn't have to necessarily be about the holidays.

Take Die Hard for instance, it's set during Christmas time, but it isn't a Christmas film. However, it fits in with what I am looking for here. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Eyes Wide Shut, Fanny and Alexander, Batman Returns, Gremlins, The Thin Man and When Harry Met Sally are other examples. Hell, I would even say Rocky IV and Lethal Weapon count. As a matter of fact, I would say the non-Christmas, Christmas movies are the more interesting additions. How about The Shining or even Psycho?

Etta James came out swinging against Beyonce for daring to perform her signature song — "At Last" — as the first dance for Barack and Michelle Obama at an inaugural ball. At a Jan. 28 concert in Seattle, the veteran singer let rip: "I tell you, that woman he has singing for him, singing my song, she gonna get her ... whipped. I can’t stand Beyonce, she had no business up there singing ... my song that I’ve been singing forever."
