Halfway through the day we freeze a movie halfway through. What do we see?
Doris Mann: Have you known Suzanne long?
Jack Faulkner: Ah, lets see. we've known each other about a month. It seems like longer, though.
Doris: Oh, I know what you mean. I'm her mother and it seems like longer.Fifty minutes into Postcards From the Edge (1990), Jack (Dennis Quaid) has dropped by to pick up Suzanne Vale (Meryl Streep) for a date. Her mother (Shirley Maclaine) intercepts the man with the bedroom eyes ('and the living room nose and the kitchen forehead'). The performers are deliciously insynch with Carrie Fisher's rapid fire witticisms.
One of the reasons people get so invested in the Oscars is the joy that comes from arguing about whether or not the octogenarian institution got it right in any given year / category. When it comes to Postcards From the Edge, they got it very very wrong. »

For the third game of the World Series on the night of Halloween, fate tried to rain on the Glee parade. Literally. It rained.
In Philadelphia where the game was being played, there was a rain delay of over an hour. If you were a Glee fan -- a Gleek -- tuning in just to see the troupe before the game, you had to be disappointed.

halfway house halfway through the day, we stop a movie 'bout halfway through... what do we see?
As you may have noticed, I tend to get hung up on film structures and timing. Not sure why but I live for opening scenes, I'm totally enthralled by filmmakers who can stick landings (i.e. the ending -- so difficult) and sometimes I just get hung up on random timed ideas like 20:07, first and last or Halfway House.
Using Singin' in the Rain for a screenshot series is kind of like cheating because every single thing about it is delightful.
"Aaaaaaaaa" Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelly sing, 51
minutes into the most purely pleasureable 102 of film, ever.
I love the "Moses Supposes" number for the electricity of the dancing but I always thought it was so weird that the boys decide to bury their vocal coach in random props to end the number. »

At long last Cats, the most recognised and adored musical the world has ever known, capers and frolics into Sydney opening Tuesday 18 May 2010 for a strictly limited season, playing in the Lyric Theatre, Star City.
Cats is quite simply a phenomenon. Featuring a magnificent musical score composed by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, including the poignant hit song "Memory", a fantastical set, inspired choreography and mischievous costumes, Cats is a brilliant song and dance spectacular not to be missed.
Seen by over 65 million people world-wide, Cats first opened in London in May 1981 to rave reviews and went on to win a record-breaking number of awards internationally including two Olivier Awards for ‘Musical of the Year' and ‘Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Musicals', and seven Tony Awards. It holds the record for one of the longest-running musicals in West End history playing for 21 years. In addition Cats played 18 years on »

Two pairs took the exit on "Dancing with the Stars" this week, one due to the weekly elimination and another due to injury. Receiving the lowest total amount of jury's score and audience vote on Monday, October 5 were Debi Mazar and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy who consequently are out of the game. Tom DeLay meanwhile voluntarily quit because he was in too much pain.
Debi danced the Samba to "Love is in the Air" by John Paul Young but the performance was criticized of lacking the "flavor" although she had all the "ingredients". The actress scored 6-5-6 which makes a total of 17 out of 30, the same score that Chuck Liddell gained. The lowest scorer that night actually was Michael Irvin with 14 but apparently the NFL player had larger fan base voting for him.
Tom, meanwhile, also scored lower than Debi, taking in 15 out of 30 for his Samba. But he »

Charade Dir. Stanley Donen (1963) Strangers on holiday: when Regina 'Reggie' Lampert (Audrey Hepburn) meets the dashing Peter Joshua (Cary Grant), she goes right home to Paris to ask her husband for a divorce. But when she arrives home to an empty apartment and reportedly dead husband, well then, she's caught up in a charade. Stanley Donen's (Singin' In the Rain) adaptation of Peter Stone's script is a stylish and entertaining flick. You wouldn't be remiss in thinking that this is practically an Alfred Hitchcock film, considering its twists and turns and sly wit. More screenplays need this sort of spark!
