Movie version of the Life of Riley based on the radio show, 31 October 2005
9/10
Author: dallas-8 from United States

Chester A. Riley is an American everyman type of a guy with a heart of gold who works at Stevenson Aircraft as a riveter. He's married to his lovely wife Peg, and they have two wonderful kids, Junior and Babs. His good friend and coworker is Gillis. Digger O'Dell is the friendly undertaker.

Burt, the boss's son at Stevenson Aircraft, has a big debt. He's broke and needs his trust fund money, but to get that, he needs to be married. And there is a lovely innocent girl in the Riley house that's available.

Riley shows what he's made of in this film. He really is the riveter with a heart of gold.

This movie version of the Life of Riley was released on April 16, 1949. The TV version of the Life of Riley with Jackie Gleason as Riley started on October 4, 1949 on NBC-TV. William Bendix, who was playing Chester A. Riley on the radio show and in this film, was involved with movie commitments, when Life of Riley (1949 version) was moving to television.
