Unbelievable soap made palatable by Oberon and Rains

One of the most contrived and unbelievable soap opera plots in existence is almost convincing, given Merle Oberon's excellent performance, ably supported by Claude Rains. They behave as if they are actually taking the film seriously and it shows you what happens when real talent are involved. The film whizzes by and keeps your interest despite its loose plot ends, all neatly tied up by the end in ludicrous packages. The emotional and well written musical score earned a deserved Oscar nom. Don't go out of your way to see this unless a fan of either Oberon or Rains - true actors, they positively glow.
