(1942) Ann Sheridan, Robert Cummings, Ronald Reagan, and Betty Field headline the glossy studio melodrama about the cruelty, madness, and murder beneath the peaceful façade of a quaint turn-of-the-century small town. Nominated for 3 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, it features cinematography by James Wong Howe and a somber score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Sam Woods directs the adaptation of the novel by Henry Ballaman.
