  • Continuity: When Roy Earle first meets Pa Goodhue at the gas station in the desert, he only introduces himself as "Mr. Collins". However, when they meet for the second time after the car accident in Tropic Springs, Pa immediately refers to him as "Roy," even though Bogart never offered his first name.

  • Continuity: During the chase up Mt. Whitney, the dust from the camera car can be seen kicking up in front of Roy's car and the police motorcycles.

  • Continuity: When Roy Earle leaves Indiana, he's driving a 1937 Plymouth coupe. As he's approaching California, the car is a 1938 (similar to the '37 but shorter, wider grille). Later, it changes back to the '37, then to the '38 again.

  • Anachronisms: Roy Earle is paroled in 1932, yet when he leaves for California it is in a 1937 Plymouth Coupe.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: During the chase scene up the dirt mountain road, the Foley is the sound of screeching tires on asphalt or concrete.

  • Boom mic visible: When Bogart is talking to Arthur Kennedy at the camp, at their first meeting, the shadow of the boom mic is seen in the back ground between them.

  • Continuity: In the chase scene on the mountain road at the end, Roy has to swerve to avoid hitting an oncoming car. This car suddenly disappears and the police that are in pursuit don't encounter it.
