A fine performance, no justice to the novel, 20 August 2006
5/10
Author: leslie04 from United Kingdom

Mickey Rooney dropped his Andy Hardy gimmicks (at last) to give a fine performance in 'The adventures of Huckleberry Finn'. He was partnered with Rex Ingram who had just won fame in 'The green pastures'.

Hugo Butler wrote a straightforward script from Mark Twain's masterpiece, which had been previously filmed in 1920 and 1931 by Paramount studios. The script unfortunately does not do a great justice to the original novel.

It's delightful the way Rooney's character acts in the beginning of the film smoking and skipping school, but when he helps Jim to escape all that charming stuff has to be thrown out of the window and Huckleberry Finn must at last wake up to reality.
