25 New Films Added To National Film Registry

Films that are as varied as the blaxploitation classic Shaft, the broadcasting satire Network, the horror flick Dracula, the Vietnam War saga Apocalypse Now and the gangster spoof Goodfellas are among the 25 films being added this year to the National Film Registry. Commenting on the selections, Librarian of Congress James Billington said Wednesday: "It celebrates the creativity and inventiveness of diverse communities and our nation as a whole." The 25 selections also include the 1957 intermission trailer Let's all Go to the Lobby, footage of President McKinley being inaugurated in 1901, the Loony Tunes cartoon Porky in Wackyland and the "Why We Fight" series of films produced and directed by Frank Capra for the U.S. Army during World War II. Other films on the list include: Five Easy Pieces (1970), The Life of Emile Zola (1937), Peter Pan (1924), Salome (1924), A Star Is Born (1954), Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957), The Fall of the House of Usher (1928), Koyaanisqatsi (1983), The Land Beyond the Sunset (1912), Little Caesar (1930), The Living Desert (1953), Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938), Multiple Sidosis (1970), Porky in Wackyland (1938), Regeneration (1915), Sherman's March (1986), and The Tall T (1957). »
