Billy Bevan is Albert, one of the two constables in the opening scene. He's the frightened underling with the thicker moustache. Bevan was a fairly popular slapstick comedian in the silent days; he graduated to characters parts during the sound era.Halliwell Hobbes is Hawkins, the other, more pompous, constable. He and Albert find the bodies of Dracula and Renfield. Later, they guard the bodies at Whitby Jail.Edward Van Sloan is Professor Van Helsing. He put the stake through Count Dracula's heart (see the opening scene) and is now accused of murder. Van Sloan also played Von Helsing in the original Dracula (1931).Gilbert Emery is Sir Basil Humphrey, the Commissioner at Scotland Yard. We first meet him as Van Helsing tells his story. We meet him again when Jeffrey Garth and Van Helsing try to convince him that Lili was a victim of a vampire.Vernon Steele is Squires. He interrupts the Sir Basil and Von Helsing to inform the former that the constables are demanding to know what to do with the bodies. Later, in another scene with Sir Basil and Von Helsing, he delivers them important information.Gloria Holden is Countess Marya Zaleska, or Dracula's Daughter. She makes her first appearance at Whitby Jail clad from head to toe in black; most of her face is covered.E.E. Clive is the Sergeant Wilkes from Scotland Yard. He first appears with Hawkings at the Whitby Jail; they find a hypnotized Albert and one of the bodies missing.Irving Pichel is the pasty-faced Sandor, the Countess's servant. He first appears with the Countess as she cremates the body of Dracula. He seems to have a sinister influence over the Countess.Otto Kruger is Jeffrey Garth, the leading man in this story. He's the psychiatrist who will act as a lawyer and defend Von Helsing. He was once a student in Vienna under Von Helsing. We first meet him at the fox hunt.Gordon Hart is Angus Graham, the host at the fox hunt. He has a Scottish brogue that Garth gently mocks when he repeats the word, "bird."Marguerite Churchill is Janet Blake, a baronet's daughter who is Jeffrey Garth's secretary. We meet her at the fox hunt where she tells Jeffrey about Von Helsing.Hedda Hopper is Lady Esme Hammond, the hostess of the party where Jeffrey Garth and the Countess meet. Hopper is best remembered today as a powerful gossip columnist.Claud Allister is Sir Aubrey Bedford. We meet him at Lady Hammond's party. He's the twit making jokes about vampires and Von Helsing. Later, he informs Jeffrey Garth over the phone that Janet is not with him as she is supposed to be.Fred Walton is the blustering Dr. Beemish of St. Mary's Hospital. Jeffrey Garth is rude to him over the phone because he thinks he's Janet playing a prank.Nan Grey is Lily. She considers suicide by jumping off a bridge but is stopped by Sandor who tells her his mistress requires a model. Later, she becomes a patient of Jeffrey Garth's.Joseph R. Tozer is Dr. Graham (not to be confused with Angus Graham, above). He is one of the two doctors attending Lily.Douglas Wood is Dr. Townsend, the other doctor attending Lily.Eily Malyon is Miss Peabody, the nurse who fumbles over tying Jeffrey Garth's tie.George Kirby is the bookshop proprietor. He lets Jeffrey Garth use the phone.Vesey O'Davoren is Hobbs, Sir Basil's butler.Agnes Anderson is Magdelena, the bride in Transylvania. William Schramm is Zoltan, the groom.Christian Rub is the coachman who will only go as far as Borgo Pass.
The Universal Horror Library was put out by Berkley Publishing and among the titles was Dracula's Daughter. The adaptation of the screenplay was by Carl Dreadstone (pseudonym of Ramsey Campbell) who wrote an introduction using his own name.
