Marriage Speculation Drove Simpson to Therapy

Jessica Simpson was so distressed by the relentless gossip about the state of her marriage to Nick Lachey, she ended up going to see a therapist. For much of the year, reports have persistently circulated that the pop couple's three-year union is on the rocks, which the stars have vehemently denied. And in an interview with Teen People, Simpson, who poses on the cover of the magazine's latest issue with her younger sister Ashlee, says, "I respect knowledge of the psyche. I would be a therapist if I weren't an entertainer. Hopefully mine and Nick's story will continue for the rest of our lives, like what we vowed, through sickness and in health."

Aniston Trespasser Gets a Year in Jail

A homeless man who invited himself into Jennifer Aniston's home in August has been slapped with a restraining order and sent to jail for a year, after pleading guilty to burglary charges. After cutting the plea deal, David Hesterbey, 49, is required to stay at least 1,000 yards from the Derailed star and her Malibu, California, home for 10 years. On 25 August, homeless Hesterbey allegedly took a $250 cab ride from Santa Barbara, California to Malibu, bailed before paying for the trip, vaulted a fence and entered Aniston's house. Aniston, 36, was not home at the time as she was filming her upcoming movie The Break Up in Chicago, Illinois with Vince Vaughn. At the hearing yesterday, which Aniston didn't attend, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Karen J. Nudell ordered that Hesterbey receive psychological counseling while in custody. Hesterbey's attorney, Excel A Sharrieff, insists his client is neither crazy nor a burglar, explaining, "He was simply trying to visit Jennifer Aniston because he's an aspiring actor. He was not looking to steal anything, he just went in through an open door. We're not saying what he did was right. But it wasn't stalking."

Allen Likes Playing Father to His Wife

Acclaimed director Woody Allen loves the paternal feelings he has towards his young wife Soon-Yi Previn, and insists the massive age gap between them defuses any conflict in their marriage. The 69-year-old sparked an international scandal when he split up with his long-term partner Mia Farrow in 1992 after falling for her adopted daughter. Allen later married Previn, 35, and the couple have two children. Yet, the Manhattan filmmaker is unabashed when he admits that his relationship with Previn is paternal and he enjoys the power his successful life gives him in their relationship. He says, "(Our marriage) has a more paternal feeling to it... I love to do things to make her happy. She loves to do things to make me happy." Despite the controversy it caused, Allen has come to view Farrow's discovery of his nude photographs of Previn as "one of the great pieces of luck in my life". He adds, "All the women I went out with were basically my age. Now, here, it just works like magic. The very inequality of me being older and much more accomplished, much more experienced, takes away any real meaningful conflict."

Pitt's Publicist Hits Back at Wedding Report

Brad Pitt's publicity team is furiously denying UK tabloid reports the movie hunk has wed Angelina Jolie in a secret ceremony. Britain's Daily Star claims the couple exchanged vows in a recent Buddhist ceremony, attended by a few family and friends, but Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti insists the story is "completely not true." She states, "They've used a wedding picture from (movie) Mr. And Mrs. Smith and run with this story on the front page. There's simply no truth to this whatsoever." Though the couple have been romantically linked ever since they played man and wife in spy comedy Mr. And Mrs. Smith, neither has commented on the speculation. The Daily Star reported the actor is wearing a gold band on his wedding finger since the alleged ceremony and the pair plan to go public as a couple once a legal ceremony has taken place.

Bateman Undergoes Throat Surgery

Production on acclaimed comedy Arrested Development has been temporarily halted, while star Emmy nominated and Golden Globe-winning Jason Bateman recovers from throat surgery. The 36-year-old actor underwent surgery yesterday morning to remove a benign polyp. Bateman's spokesperson, Cara Tripicchio, says the operation went smoothly and the screen star is doing well. Production on Arrested Development will be on hiatus for a few weeks while Bateman recovers, according to executive producer Mitch Hurwitz.

Slater Takes a Tumble

Hollywood actor Christian Slater dramatically fell from a roof at Paris Hilton's neighbor's house while drunk at a weekend party. The Broken Arrow star allegedly made the dangerous ascent to spy on neighbors of the hotel heiress who had complained about noise levels at the lavish party. The 36-year-old lost his balance and fell one storey into bushes, the New York Post reports. Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant Karen Leong says the 36-year-old actor was "not injured, not hurt, not arrested". She also denies claims Slater's accident was the result of suffering police Taser guns in a bid to coax him off the roof. In September, prosecutors in New York agreed to dismiss groping charges against the actor on condition he stay out of trouble for the next six months. But Slater's lawyer Eric Franz is confident his drunken antics at the party will not constitute a breach. He says, "I don't believe that Mr. Slater's having a good time at Paris Hilton's party will have any effect on his New York case."

Bloom Hits Out at Dunst Rumours

Orlando Bloom denies he is having an affair with co-star Kirsten Dunst, but concedes the rumors about the pair are as inevitable as "tax". The actors, who play lovers in new movie Elizabethtown, have been spotted on numerous occasions together - prompting claims Bloom is dating Dunst behind girlfriend Kate Bosworth's back. But the British actor insists he would have come clean by now if he was cheating. "(The rumors are the) price you pay for a great job and lifestyle, like tax." He adds, "If you want to screw around, it's your choice and you accept it when you're caught."

Travolta and Cruise Turn Out for Scientology Bash

John Travolta and Tom Cruise were guests of honor at the Church of Scientology's annual gala in England this weekend. The pair were joined by partners Kelly Preston, Katie Holmes and Scientologist singer Isaac Hayes for the bash at the organization's world headquarters, Saint Hill Manor in East Grinstead, East Sussex. Cruise was given a standing ovation on Saturday night after it was revealed he had donated a total of $3.6 million to the International Association of Scientologists since joining it 15 years ago. He was presented with the Diamond Meritorious Award - and is the church's biggest ever donor. Travolta - who arrived at the Georgian mansion flying his own private jet - was also among almost 7,000 guests from around the world, and was photographed dancing to Hayes' music with his actress wife Preston.

Jackson Recruits Kelly for Charity Track

Michael Jackson has recruited troubled R&B star R. Kelly to perform on his charity single for America's hurricane victims. It had initially been believed that Kelly, who is currently fighting child pornography charges, would not be able to perform on the single, which had initially been named "From The Bottom Of My Heart," until Jackson altered and re-recorded it. And while the many stars Jackson had mentioned - including Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz and Jay-Z - have yet to publicly confirm that they're participating on the track, Kelly has signed up not only to lend his voice to the project but also to serve as executive producer, reports MTV News. Jackson, who has kept a low profile since his June acquittal on child molestation charges, had started recording the single in London, but is now finishing it up in Los Angeles.

Gabrielle Union and Husband Split

Bad Boys II star Gabrielle Union has announced that she and her husband Chris Howard have split, after four-and-a-half years of marriage. Union, 33, exchanged nuptials with former American football running back Howard in May 2001. The screen beauty's publicist Lisa Kussell says in a statement, "The couple remains close and asks that you respect their privacy at this difficult time." The couple have no children together.
