Photographer Arrested on Pitt Movie Set
Brad Pitt's battle with the paparazzi continued on Friday night when a photographer was arrested on the set of his new movie The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford in Fort Edmonton, Canada. Snapper David Buston was discovered by security staff hiding in a building on the western movie's set - which is closely guarded from the public. But Buston insists he is not a paparazzo because he concentrates mainly on photographing sporting events and weddings. The 55-year-old says, "I suppose it would be a good thing in the paparazzi (circles), but also the better guys who do it don't get caught. It's not necessarily a feather in my cap." And he maintains he was treated fairly when police arrived to arrest him for mischief and interference: "The police were really quite nice guys and they seemed to understand that I was trying to make a living." Production spokesperson Lee Anne Muldoon says, "It is not unusual for us to have paparazzi when we are shooting on public streets. It is unusual to find them that close to our location, where we have locked things off to the public."
Demi's Men Team Up on TV

The two men in Demi Moore's life are set to team up on TV this autumn For cameo roles in sitcom That '70s Show. Moore's ex-husband Bruce Willis will play a shady security boss who interviews the actress' current beau, Ashton Kutcher, for a bouncer's job. It will mark the first time the two actors have appeared together on screen. The cameo also represents a quick return to the show for Kutcher, who quit the sitcom at the end of last season. Willis plans to donate his fee from the show, which will air in America in November, to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Wright Penn Slams Sean Criticism
Robin Wright Penn has launched a scathing attack on the journalists who mocked her husband Sean Penn's failed mission to rescue survivors of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Oscar-winning actor's well-intentioned attempt to save children from the floods failed miserably when his decrepit boat started leaking dangerously. The Mystic River star, who was desperate to do "whatever I can to help", allegedly forgot to fix a hole in the makeshift rescue vessel, which promptly started sinking as he furiously scooped water out of the boat with a plastic cup. Penn initially attracted criticism from onlookers when they saw the boat was already crammed with Penn's entourage - including a photographer - before any flood victims climbed onboard. But Wright Penn is incandescent with rage at the "pathetic" jibes leveled at her husband. She tells the New York Daily News, "To them, I say 'F**k you! I think it's f**king pathetic to be belittling him. Do we have to go to the bowels of infantile behavior? Here people are dying, and if it wasn't Sean Penn going crazy watching CNN and saying, 'I have to do something' - but instead it was 'Joe Smith from Morgan City' - then those people would be thanking him, not attacking him."
Ritchie's 'Revolver' Mauled by Critics
Guy Ritchie's new movie has been savaged by critics after its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Just two years after his last effort, Swept Away, flopped miserably, Revolver, Ritchie's return to the gangster genre, has been dismissed as a "convoluted, risibly overwrought muddle" by one US magazine. Screen International also warned viewers would be left "bewildered and disappointed" by what the Hollywood Reporter described as "pretentious style and fractured storytelling". Hollywood Reporter reviewer Kirk Honeycutt adds, "The movie spins wildly in circles, continually doubling back on itself, repeating scenes - once even backward - and lines of dialogue until a viewer loses a grip on what is supposed to be real." Jason Statham, Ray Liotta and Andre Benjamin star in the movie about a feud between a criminal gambler and a gangland boss. Ritchie was accompanied to the Toronto screening by his wife Madonna - appearing less than a month after she suffered three cracked ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken hand in a horse riding accident.
Newton-John "Had Split Up With" Missing Lover

Australian actress/singer Olivia Newton-John had split up with her lover Patrick McDermott before he went missing in July, according to her nephew. Emerson Newton-John claims the long-term relationship fizzled out after McDermott began drinking heavily, and he insists his aunt had no idea her partner was in serious financial trouble. He says, "It just naturally came to an end. Livvy saw it was not progressing. She knew he was drinking, she probably didn't want to deal with it." Emerson adds that McDermott was depressed for months leading up to his disappearance while on a fishing trip in California - but he believes he is more likely to have died in a drunken accident than staged his disappearance or committed suicide. He adds, "It doesn't take much to fall off a boat and drown."
Zellweger Undecided on Joplin Role
Renee Zellweger has stamped out reports she has agreed to play troubled rocker Janis Joplin, as she is less than convinced she is the right actress for the role. The Cold Mountain beauty is still considering the offer to take the lead in Piece Of My Heart, because she is aware how vital it is to get the casting just right for such a sensitive story. She says, "It's all speculative right now. The movie is in pre-production. It's going to take a long time. If at the end of that time it still feels right time in my life, then we'll see. Joplin was an extraordinary person. There is a need to be careful with the movie, to make sure it does not become a cliche. Because that would be blasphemy. We have to make sure that the people who knew her are not disappointed." Joplin died in 1970 following a heroin overdose.
Clarkson Cancels More Concerts
American Idol star Kelly Clarkson has been forced to scrap another three dates on her American tour after failing to recover from a bout of bronchitis. The singer postponed two shows in California last week due to her health problems, but showed up for a sound check for a weekend show in Reno, Nevada. Unfortunately, she failed to hit the high notes and chose to scrap the show. She has since cancelled shows in Las Vegas, Nevada and Spokane, Washington. Clarkson did make one performance over the weekend - she was among the stars taking part in an MTV Hurricane Katrina telethon on Saturday night. That performance was taped before she fell ill.
Steve Martin Laughs at Fat Jibes

American funnyman Steve Martin has laughed off critics who claim he looks overweight in new movie Shopgirl - he insists he lost 20 pounds before shooting the comedy thanks to a self-designed diet. US entertainment writers have described the Roxanne actor as "old" and "puffy" in their film reviews - which also stars Claire Danes - but Martin remains unfazed because he actually discarded so much fat, he then had to put weight on. He tells the New York Daily News, "I lost 20 pounds - actually, I lost 25 pounds, but then I gained 5 back because I was too skinny. I didn't change what I ate, I just started eating smaller portions. And I cut out bread - that's the real killer, because I was reaching in and eating half a loaf before dinner arrived. All you have to do is that, and then you can drink all you want."
Carlin Comes Clean About Sobering Rehab Experience

Comedian George Carlin felt "unworthy" during his recent stint in rehab, because his booze and drugs problems were nothing compared to the addictions of those in counseling with him. The Jersey Girl star checked into rehab at Christmas in a bid to check his addiction to alcohol and prescription pills, and he admits it really was a sobering experience. He explains, "Some of the guys in there were taking 50 Vikes (Vicodin) a day and burning down their houses and backing into police vans and s**t. I felt almost unworthy. (But) I definitely suffered the affliction every addict suffers - I just couldn't stop. The addiction had more power than I did. Plus, for me, there were just too many requirements: finding the drink, counting out the f**king pills to see how many days were left before the prescription ran out." Carlin, 69, insists he's got his addiction, which at its height included a bottle-and-a-half of wine and four or five Vicodin a day, in check and insists sobriety isn't a struggle for him. He adds, "I don't have a yen and I don't have an urge (for alcohol or drugs). Intellectually, if I'm in the supermarket and I pass the wine section, I say, 'Oh yeah, remember when you used to do that?' and I keep moving."
Dench Dismisses Soul-Searching Acting

British actress Dame Judi Dench dismisses soul-searching theatre techniques, because she believes acting is about exploring a character as opposed to drawing out qualities from within. Dench is convinced the character should be more important than the actor but admits her feelings are nothing in comparison to those held by her Ladies In Lavender co-star Dame Maggie Smith - who brands such techniques as akin to "w**king". She says, "Acting is about the exploration of character rather than simply a projection of self. I was in New York with Maggie Smith recently, promoting a film, and we were asked about the Sanford Meisner school of acting which is based on ruthless self-exploration. Maggie, in her unique way, said, 'Oh, we have that in England, too. We call it w**king."
