Clooney Slams 'Solaris' Critic

Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney launched an angry tirade against a journalist at the Berlin Film Festival - after he described the star's latest film Solaris as "boring." The sexy actor was left furious after the Turkish journalist remarked on the Steven Soderbergh film at a news conference on Saturday night. Clooney blasted, "I find you fascinating. You crack me up, man. You just wanted to get up and be a rat, you know that? You just wanted to get up and say something rotten. What a jerk! I mean honestly, you know, what a s**t thing to say! You make a lot of films, do you? You make a lot of films yourself? Yeah, I'd like to see you make a film first before you get to talk about it. What a jerk!" Solaris opened in America to mixed reviews and has performed badly at the box office, however the Ocean's Eleven star remains impressed by the work. When the same journalist asked if he was happy with the film, he replied, "Yes I am. And thanks for the question."

Jude and Sadie Call in Divorce Lawyers

The marriage between Jude Law and Sadie Frost is over for good - and the Road To Perdition actor has called in the divorce lawyers. Law, who is reportedly enjoying a new romance with Cold Mountain co-star Nicole Kidman, has told his fashion designer wife there is no hope for their five- year marriage and that they must make the next step by divorcing. Frost, who was admitted to a London hospital two weeks ago after suffering post-natal depression, is said to be distraught at the news and was hoping that she could reconcile with Law. But friends of the pair have revealed that Law has no intention of looking back. A friend tells British tabloid The Sun, "This is her worst nightmare. Sadie does not want to get divorced but Jude is adamant. He has spoken to lawyers and told them to get the ball rolling. She is trying to keep things going but Jude doesn't seem to be interested. He has been telling friends he is not doing Sadie any favors by sticking around. There have been meetings between Jude and Sadie but they have been for crisis talks rather than anything else. Jude loves his children and wants to make a divorce as painless as possible for them. He called in divorce lawyers first and Sadie had no choice but to follow suit. She is not happy. She is desperate to keep her family together. But Jude cannot see any way back - even though he feels terrible for the children."

Former Brando Assistant Sues Over Loan

A woman who worked as a personal assistant for Marlon Brando for 25 years sued the actor in a Los Angeles court on Thursday, claiming he was trying to force her to repay $185,000 that he gave her as a gift to buy a home in London. Caroline Barrett began working for Brando in 1976 and retired in 2001. The screen legend adopted Barrett's daughter, Petra, in 1981 although it was unclear whether the couple had a personal relationship. The lawsuit states that Brando gave Barrett the money to buy a house in London after he moved there in 1985, so she could look after his affairs and "Petra could have roots," according to the lawsuit. Although Brando told Barrett that he would have to classify the transfer of money as a loan to avoid "dire tax consequences," he repeatedly assured her that she did not have to pay the money back, says the suit. She also agreed to sign a promissory note and to use her Los Angeles home as collateral to further the appearance of a loan, says the suit. Barrett sold the London house in 1990 after Brando's business there concluded, and all three moved back to America so that Petra could attend college, according to the suit. In the suit, she claims that Brando told her he had instructed his attorneys to cancel the promissory note against her home. She retired in 2001 and refused several entreaties to return to work, the suit states. In September, she received a letter from Brando's attorneys saying that she was in default of the loan and that he intended to foreclose on her Los Angeles home unless she paid the full amount plus interest, says the suit. Barrett contends that the letter contained Brando's first mention that the 1985 transaction was a loan, and she asks the court to prevent the actor from taking her home or collecting on the loan, as well as attorneys' fees.

Jolie Eyes Law-Paltrow Collaboration

Hollywood beauty Angelina Jolie is set to star in a independent film opposite sexy stars Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow. The project, tentatively entitled The World Of Tomorrow, will be financed independently and will be the filmmaking debut of scriptwriter Kerry Conran. The pre-World War Two sci-fi thriller will see Jolie's as a pilot, Law as her swashbuckling colleague and Paltrow as a snooping journalist. Shooting on the film starts in March and one of the producer's is Law's estranged wife Sadie Frost.

Jones Mourns His Mother

Pop legend Tom Jones is distraught after his mother Freda died on Saturday night. The "It's Not Unusual" hitmaker was very close to the 87-year old, who passed away after a battle with cancer. And Jones has cancelled a number of concerts in Las Vegas after keeping a vigil at his mother's Bel Air, California bedside. His cousin Jean Thomas says, "Freda was everything to Tom. He's devastated." Jones credits Freda with giving him the confidence to launch his singing career after she encouraged him to serenade their neighbors when he was just 5-years old.

'The Godfather' Gets New Blood

Publishers Random House have named the author who will pen the next installment of Maria Puzo's Godfather saga. American author Mark Winegardner will continue the story of the Corleone family by writing The Godfather Returns, which is set to be released in autumn 2004. Random House editor Jonathan Karp says, "There are many stories left to tell. (I was looking for) someone who is in roughly the same place in life Mario Puzo was when he wrote The Godfather - at mid-career, with two acclaimed literary novels to his credit, who writes in a commanding and darkly comic omniscient voice." Winegardener's previous literary efforts include Prophet Of The Sandlots and Crooked River Burning.

Brad Rejects Jen's 'Friends' Reunion Plan

Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt has turned down the chance to play opposite his wife Jennifer Aniston in Friends for a second time - for artistic reasons. The Fight Club star appeared in an episode of the hit comedy series where he played an old school friend of David Schwimmer's character Ross Gellar with a hatred for Aniston's Rachel Green. After a rave reception from the show's fans, the cameo earned Pitt an Emmy nomination, but he is still not interested in repeating the experience. He says, "You can do these things once. Then that's it. Doing it again just wouldn't have the same impact." And a source adds, "Brad diplomatically explained to Jen he saw himself as a serious actor."

Zellweger Yearns for the Simple Life

Hollywood actress Renee Zellweger loves her life at the top of the 'A' list but filming her new movie made her respect the simple life. The Cold Mountain star spent months in Romania last year filming the epic alongside stars Nicole Kidman and Jude Law and the lifestyle of the people of the country impressed her. She says, "I learned how little in the way of material goods we really need, and how beautiful a simple life can be. In Romania people work with their hands every day, and you'll see an 80-year-old woman still chopping wood because she's been looking after herself all her life, and she still has the strength to do it."
