Pinewood Spins With The Catherine Wheel

The upcoming historical feature Catherine of Alexandria is prepping to start at Pinewood Studios UK. Following the recent discovery of the 4th Century diary of 'Saint Catherine', the film will tell the story of her torture on a wheel of spikes at the hands of the Roman despot Maximus in 329 Ad. Saint Catherine of Alexandria, also known as Saint Catherine of the Wheel and Great Martyr Saint Catherine, is claimed to have been a scholar in the early 4th century. What is told of her life is composed of legends, that she was the daughter of 'Costus', governor of Alexandria and one day announced to her parents that she would marry someone who surpassed her in everything, such that "His beauty was more radiant than the shining of the sun, His wisdom governed all creation, and His riches were spread throughout all the world." Fox Takes Aim @ Human Target

According to VancouverFilm.Net, Human Target, the slick, Vancouver-lensed DC Comics adaptation, directed by Simon West, written by Jonathan E. Steinberg, has been given the coveted American Idol lead-in on the Fox network for 2010. American Idol has ranked #1 in the Nilesen Ratings for five consecutive seasons. The programing decision is part of the network's midseason schedule, which lays out the lineup to April. Human Target stars Mark "Boston Legal" Valley as the DC Comics character, created in 1972, by writer Len Wein and illustrator Carmine Infantino, as detective/bodyguard 'Christopher Chance' who impersonates clients to eliminate threats, becoming the human target. Writer Peter Milligan and illustrator Edvin Biukovic revived the character in 1999 for a four-issue limited series followed by the graphic novel "Human Target: Final Cut", an ongoing series that lasted 21 issues. Producers Fly With Anderson's UFO

Matthew Gratzner, VFX supervisor for Paramount's first Iron Man, will direct a feature version of the 1970's Brit TV series UFO, starring Joshua "Fringe" Jackson as test pilot 'Paul Foster', working for 'S.H.A.D.O.' ('Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization'), a secret organization defending Earth from a ruthless race of aliens. Rights for the Gerry Anderson-created, ITV Global series were optioned by producers Henri M. Kessler and Avi Haas, for the Robert Evans Co., targeting a Spring 2010 start. DreamWorks Gears Up For Real Steel

DreamWorks' Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider have green-lit the $80 million, sci fi feature Real Steel, to star actor Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman. The film will be the first picture for the studio since raising $650 million production funding from J.P. Morgan Securities and India-based Reliance Big Pictures. Disney also contributed $175 million, for the exclusive distribution of new DreamWorks titles. Real Steel, adapting author Richard "I Am Legend" Matheson's short story, will be set in the future, where human 'blood-sport' boxing has been outlawed for being ultra violent and high-tech 'rock 'em sock 'em ' robots pound each other out in the ring instead. Green's Metallo Hearts Smallville

According to VancouverFilm.Net, actor Brian Austin "90210" Green will return as 'Metallo', the villain with the 'kryptonite'-infused heart, for 'Episode 18' of the Vancouver-lensed 'Superman' TV series Smallville. Green's character first appeared in the Smallville Season 9 premiere as journalist 'John Corbin', aka 'Metallo', who was killed after accidentally ripping out his heart, trying to destroy 'Clark Kent' (Tom Welling). In the show, 'Dr. Emil' (Alessandro Juliani) said Corbin had become 'more machine than man', opening up the possibility of a 'cyborg' return. The 'Metallo' episode will air Spring 2010. Sneak Peek Victoria's Secret 2009

Model Heidi Klum recently hosted the Victoria's Secret 2009 TV special, starring runway/print models Alessandra Ambrosio, Selita Ebanks, Marisa Miller, Ana Beatriz Barros and Candice Swanepoel. Lensed in New York City, the show will air on CBS Dec. 1. Highlights include Marisa Miller wearing a customized 'Fantasy Bra', containing more than 150 carats of diamonds, estimated @ $3 million. "Heidi is a superwoman", said Ed Razek, Victoria's Secret president. "She is hosting the most high profile fashion show in the world." New Moon Sucks Up $258 Million In 3 Days

According to VancouverFilm.Net, the 'seduction of the innocent' continues as the Vancouver-lensed vampire/werewolf teen romance The Twilight Saga: New Moon sucked up record-breaking admissions from predominantly teenage girls, to pull in a total of $258.8 million worldwide in its first 3 days of release. Debuting in 25 countries, New Moon is the sequel to the story of a school girl (Kristen Stewart) and a 'vampire' (Robert Pattinson), caught up in a love triangle with a buff 'werewolf' (Taylor Lautner). According to reports, young females make up 80 per cent of the audience for the "Twilight" book series by author Stephenie Meyer.
