After Taylor Lautner famously hit the gym to keep his role in the "Twilight" series, Kristen Stewart told MTV News she was thankful he hadn't been replaced for "New Moon." And as filming began for the sequel, the co-stars were able to build on their relationship for the benefit of the film and their fans.

"I'm so glad they didn't have to find somebody else; we already had him!" Stewart told us back in January, and she continued to support Lautner as the two worked to capture the tentative love story between heartbroken Bella Swan and werewolf-to-be Jacob Black.

"Kristen has been absolutely amazing to work with," Lautner said in an interview provided by studio Summit Entertainment. "She's such a talented actress, »

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart Debate Team Edward Vs. Team Jacob

It seems like the debate has been echoing around the Twi-verse forever, and it's definitely not going to quiet down once "New Moon" arrives in theaters: Are you on Team Edward or Team Jacob? Do you fancy the smoldering teen vampire or the buff teen werewolf? Who should Bella Swan choose?

And, of course, you must choose! That goes for folks in the "Twilight" fanbase and the castmembers themselves. Everyone has to wade into this heated debate about supernatural, amorous longing.

Ms. Bella Swan herself, Kristen Stewart, views the choice between the vampire and the werewolf as one that pits your head against your heart. "For whatever reason, Bella is instinctually in need — I mean, can't live without Edward," she explained in an interview provided by studio Summit Entertainment. »

With an impressive box-office opening this past weekend, "Precious" proved to be worth all the critical acclaim and excitement brewing around it. The film features standout performances by pop star Mariah Carey, comedian Mo'nique and newcomer Gabourey Sidibe, who plays the title role. Sidibe credits director Lee Daniels for allowing the women to explore their characters.

"It was really, really cool. A lot of things that we said wasn't in the script, and so, like, we had free range," Sidibe said during her appearance on CBS' "Early Show" on Monday. "Mr. Daniels made sure we knew what the scene was about and that we can do whatever we felt like, and so it was really cool. And [Carey] was on her toes and I was on my toes, and it was almost like a fight, »

Beverly Hills, California — In early 2008, then-little-known actors including Robert Pattinson, Ashley Greene and Taylor Lautner traveled to Portland to shoot a small vampire film that they hoped would get a theatrical release. Barely two years later, "Twilight" is one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, with two Vancouver-filmed sequels rolling into theaters. Now, Pattinson is revealing plans to return to the city where it all began — and recommending the Portland-based Oscar nominee he wants to direct "Breaking Dawn."

"I probably shouldn't say this," Rob revealed to MTV News over the weekend, acknowledging that the wheels are slowly creeping into motion on "Breaking Dawn" getting made. "But I've heard that we're going to shoot it in Portland.

John Cusack: '2012' Isn't Just A Disaster Flick, It's An 'Apocalypse Movie'

10 November 2009 3:06 AM, PST

'You've got to go intergalactic [for a follow-up] because the Earth is pretty much covered on this one,' Cusack laughs.

The first time we see John Cusack in "2012," he says he's about to be killed: The guy's late to pick up his kids for a camping trip and his ex-wife is not the forgiving type. About 30 minutes later — and really, for the next two hours — that hyperbolic sentiment becomes frighteningly real when Los Angeles (and then the rest of the planet) disintegrates into a fiery, tsunami-swept wasteland.

Director Roland Emmerich has made disaster movies aplenty ("Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow") but Cusack argued in a recent MTV News interview that "2012" is no disastrous flick.

"This is more of an apocalypse movie!" he declared.

Canoga Park, California — One day before they invaded Los Angeles' Hollywood & Highland Center, the cast of "New Moon" kicked off their tour with a stop at a Nordstrom packed with shrieking Twilighters. Featuring appearances by fan faves Edi Gathegi, Christian Serratos, Alex Meraz, Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier and Kiowa Gordon, the group eyeballed all the cool merch that we previewed a few weeks back — and spoke exclusively to MTV News about their big plans between now and the evening when "New Moon" finally rises.

"We're here today — half the wolf pack, a sexy vampire and a regular human," laughed Gathegi, who plays the (mostly) evil Laurent in the saga. "We're here to meet 125 fans, »

How Were George Clooney And Bill Murray Cast In 'Fantastic Mr. Fox'?

10 November 2009 12:39 AM, PST

'When we were writing it, we were thinking of animals, so we didn't really think of actors,' director Wes Anderson says.

By Eric Ditzian

Wes Anderson is comfortable with his crew of Hollywood buddies, a bunch he started cobbling together along with college roommate Owen Wilson for his debut feature, "Bottle Rocket." In subsequent movies, Anderson's hipster squad grew to encompass Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and others, as he continued to cast them in films like "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "The Darjeeling Limited."

So when it comes to his first animated film, the stop-motion Roald Dahl adaptation "Fantastic Mr. Fox," no one should be surprised that Wilson, Murray and Schwartzman lend their voices to the animal characters. But was it always going to be this way? Did Anderson have these actors in mind from the beginning, or »

Box-Office Top Five

#1 "A Christmas Carol" ($31 million)

#2 "Michael Jackson's This Is It" ($14 million)

#3 "The Men Who Stare at Goats" ($13.3 million)

#4 "The Fourth Kind" ($12.5 million)

#5 "Paranormal Activity" ($8.6 million)

Despite the first-place finish of Robert Zemeckis's 3-D representation of "A Christmas Carol," yuletide cheer seemed halfhearted at the weekend box office. Given Jim Carrey's star power, the movie's $200 million budget and the potential family-crowd draw, the $31 million debut from "A Christmas Carol" is a disappointing result for the Disney version of the Charles Dickens classic.

Second place went to "Michael Jackson's This Is It," which earned less than half as much as the first-place finisher. Winding down Friday evening in fourth place, "This Is It" wound up in the #2 slot thanks »

Since the release of the first "Twilight" film, fans have been divided on one issue: Team Edward or Team Jacob? Well, the November 20 release of "New Moon" is sure to make that decision harder. MTV News left it to our favorite celebrities.

So who is on Team Edward? "No, I really did not like [Jacob]. I would put my book down and be like, 'Leave Bella alone,' " "Hills" star Stephanie Pratt told MTV News. "I had issues with Jacob — that he was just, like, manipulating with her and messing with her, especially when Edward came back in the picture ... I get really mad and I feel bad 'cause I think I take it out on Taylor [Lautner]. I hate Jacob."

If you're among the most die-hard Twilighters, you might know that Stephenie Meyer has previously worked on a novel through the eyes of Edward — but which other character deserves his or her own spin-off? You may be aware that Anna Kendrick is getting Oscar buzz for "Up in the Air" — but who do fans think will win the award before her?

From the best-looking actress to who should direct "Breaking Dawn," a new poll is offering insight into Twilight Nation, and MTV News is the only place where you can see the results.

Last week, we teamed with Fandango to survey 1,457 Twilighters who had purchased tickets to "New Moon" through their service. Much like a poll in mid-October, the results are as illuminating as Edward Cullen stepping into the Italian sunlight. »

'New Moon' Star Dakota Fanning Had 'So Much Fun' With Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning spent this past summer playing bandmates on the set of "The Runaways," the upcoming biopic about the '70s-era all-girl rockers. It was quite a change from the two characters they portrayed months earlier in "New Moon": a girl from rural Washington and a vampire who can psychically inflict incapacitating pain on others.

During filming on "New Moon," however, the two actresses became good friends. "I knew Kristen a little bit before this, and I'm going to be working with her in another movie this summer ['The Runaways']," Fanning said in an interview conducted in the midst of shooting and provided by studio Summit Entertainment. By their own admission, Tegan and Sara are addicted to heartbreak, so when it came time to write songs for their just-released Sainthood album, they didn't stray far from what they know — cheery topics like eternal damnation, obsession and earth-shattering loss.

Of course, they also took inspiration from one other source: Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series.

"I read all the 'Twilight' books while we were recording Sainthood, and [producer/ Death Cab for Cutie guitarist] Chris [Walla] and I were talking about it a lot, because after we finished our record, he was going to record with Death Cab to do their song for the 'New Moon' soundtrack," Tegan Quinn told MTV News last week. "So me and him would geek out with each other and talk about it, »

This past weekend, moviegoers across the nation had their choice of over 3,600 theaters at which they could catch "A Christmas Carol," the 3-D motion-capture odyssey starring Jim Carrey. At the same time, the indie drama "Precious" screened in just 18 places during its opening weekend. "Christmas Carol" raked in the big bucks — $31 million in total — but "Precious" was arguably the bigger box-office story.

The film raked in $1.8 million dollars, for a per-screen-average of $100,000 — the highest in three years and the 11th best of all time — greatly increasing the chances that it will become the darling of the upcoming awards season.

Starring newcomer Gabourey Sidibe, "Precious" is a brutal story of one girl's horrific struggles with familial abuse, rape, teenage pregnancy and the claustrophobic hopelessness that has invaded her life. »
