Tobey Maguire 'in talks for Bilbo Baggins role in The Hobbit'
Spider-man star Tobey Maguire may be swinging into the Shire to play Bilbo Baggins according to the latest rumour surrounding casting for The Hobbit.
During a promotional interview, the actor gave a hint when he apparently said he'd next like to work with Guillermo del Toro - who is directing The Hobbit - and may have news on that in the near future.
Latino Review says it has now confirmed that talks are taking place for Maguire to play Bilbo but are only in the early stages.
The star would potentially be available for filming The Hobbit in the gap between Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5, which are reportedly not shooting back to back as was initially thought.
Actors previously linked to playing the character in the Tolkien adaptation include James McAvoy and David Tennant (both of whom debunked the reports as internet fiction) and Daniel Radcliffe (who said he

First look at The Day of the Triffids remake, X-Men stars now tackle mutant plants
10 hours ago
A New remake of The Day of the Triffids is coming this Christmas, with a stellar cast taking on the deadly plants.
It's now been revealed that the two-part sci-fi drama begins on BBC1 on December 28 at 9pm, with the concluding part on December 29.
The cast is headed by British actor Dougray Scott as Bill Masen. Sci-fi and superhero fanatics may recall that Scott, 44, was cast as Wolverine in the first X-Men film back in 1999 but had to be replaced by Hugh Jackman when shooting on Mission: Impossible II overran by two months.
Fellow X-Men actor Brian Cox - the villainous William Stryker in X2 - joins him as Dennis Masen, with other cast members including Joely Richardson as Jo Playton, Vanessa Redgrave as Durrant, Eddie Izzard as Torrence and Jason Priestley as Coker.

Studio to repeat Paranormal Activity success with microbudget movies
14 hours ago
After seeing the supernatural profit margins that are materialising from Paranormal Activity, it's no wonder studio bosses at Paramount want more of the same.
The film cost $15,000 (£9,200) to make and has so far brought in $107million (£66million). It's also been well-received by critics and a sequel is being considered.
Paramount now says it will spend $1million a year on developing other 'microbudget' movies.
Between 10 and 20 projects will be under way by the end of next year, reports Variety, with no individual budget topping $100,000 (£62,000).
Paranormal Activity isn't the first low-budget horror success. In 1999, The Blair Witch Project was made for $60,000 (£37,000) and earned $249million (£153million) worldwide.
David Lynch's 1977 cult classic Eraserhead was made for $20,000 (£12,000) while Robert Rodriguez's 1992 debut El Mariachi cost just $7,000 (£4,300).
Even El Mariachi, at less than half the budget of Paranormal Activity, isn't the cheapest film ever made.
The prime contender for that honour has to be the

Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff is to launch her own comic book.
Sackhoff, who plays Captain Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace in the space series, has penned the title with writer/production designer friend Sxv'Leithan Essex but says she isn't ready to disclose details of what the comic will be about.
She told TVGuide: "I'm launching my own comic book that we're getting ready to debut at Comic-Con next year. It's called Versus. I wrote it with my friend Sxv'Leithan Essex. We're very excited."
The 29-year-old, who has joined the cast of 24, added: "I grew up reading [the comic book] Betty & Veronica. I was obsessed with it.
"I was always a Betty, because I felt like identified with her but at the same time Veronica kicked ass, right?"
"Every time that we would go on an airplane or on a car trip I would go and get them and now I've become a fan of just the genre in general.

Is Avatar already on the way to an Oscar?
13 December 2009 6:35 PM, PST
James Cameron'S sci-fi epic Avatar isn't out in cinemas until Friday but it's already on its way to an Oscar nomination.
It's among the 15 contenders for a Visual Effects Oscar which have just been announced by the Motion Picture Academy.
However, Cameron has downplayed the chances of his new release repeating the Academy Awards success of his previous film Titanic, which won 11 gongs including Best Picture.
Speaking at the London premiere for Avatar, he said: "I think they should give serious attention to the technical work, the visual effects and photography, sound, music.. it's a beautiful score. As for the other stuff, the Academy tends to be not that interested in science fiction films, fantasy films, but we'll see. It's a possibility."
The Motion Picture Academy's other contenders in the Visual Effects category are Angels & Demons, Coraline, Disney's A Christmas Carol, District 9, G-Force, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,
