Love "Lost"? Dig those Lonely Island dudes? Then you'll be tickled pink by this.
Some viral video producers calling themselves The Donkey Wheel have created a super-funny clip that pays homage to both ABC's about-to-end drama and Lonely Island's very clever video "We Like Sportz."
It's called (what else?) "We Like Lost." And Carlton Cuse, creator of "Lost," liked it enough to tweet about it to his thousands of Twitter followers Monday.
ABC's marketing department ought to find a way to use this in the promotion of the fina... »

But ABC also confirmed that it won't be ordering any additional episodes of "Eastwick," the 10 p.m. Wednesday series which has struggled to find an audience. It will halt production after wrapping its initial run of 13 episodes.

By Josef Adalian
Omfg: The CW is making plans to boost buzzworthy new drama "Life Unexpected" by slotting it in the "Gossip Girl" timeslot.
"Lux" will inherit the "Gg" 9 p.m. Monday timeslot on Jan. 18, industry insiders confirm. What's unclear, however, is how long it will stay in that slot.
"Gg" is expected to take several weeks off from the schedule, but it is not moving to a new night. That could mean that after a few weeks in the 9 p.m. Monday slot, "Lux" will shift to a more permanent slot-- though just where on the CW's ... »

How 'Flatliners' Went From a Verb to a Noun
15 hours ago
Honestly, I’d kinda forgotten what a landmark movie it was -- “Flatliners,” that is.
Next year is its 20th anniversary, and what amazes me is that people still use the word as a noun, not a verb (as in, “He’s flatlining” ... meaning all those monitors you see in TV shows are beeping and the patient is dying). Which is what writer Peter Filardi meant when he created the phrase in the 1989 script “Flatliners.”
I know. I was the... »

Disney is releasing a new poster for Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland." The movie, which stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as Alice, hits theaters in Spring 2010. Depp's Hatter is noticeably absent from the art, but the poster gives a nice look at Stephen Fry's Cheshire Cat and Burton's wife and frequent collaborator Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen.

Oscar's Big Problem: Too Easy, Too Soon
By Steve Pond
Ten best-picture nominees.
A new way of counting the final votes.
No clear favorite at this point.
Four potentially major films that have yet to be seen.
Isn’t that a recipe for an unpredictable Oscar season? Then why are things looking so damn predictable?
When more than a dozen bloggers and pundits and prognosticators made their predictions in Movie City News’ “Gurus of Gold” last week, eight films showed up on at least 12 of the 14 lists. Only 11 movies were deemed serious competitors for the 10 slots. And a different poll ... »

Paramount Joins ZillionTV, but does that mean it's thriving?
By Eric Taub
Is ZillionTV -- a fledgling Internet-based TV service with more than $18 million in funding -- barely surviving? Or is it thriving? The company announced today that Paramount has joined as a new equity partner, offering a slate of films that customers will be able to watch using a variety of payment models. Recently, Lionsgate also made an equity investment. Other equity partners include Disney, Fox, NBC Universal, Visa, and Warner Bros. Yet at least one skeptic argues that the service is not doing well. The company recently laid off a significant portion of its staff, pushed its lau... »

Afm Update: Whither the People?

By Brent Lang
If the producers of the American Film Market are correct, there are more buyers in Santa Monica this year. The halls of the two beachfront hotels where the bazaar is being held, however, tell another story. They are, as more than one film executive here noted, conspicuously easy to pass through.
"It struck me that the crowds look thinner," said Mark Burton, president of production at IndieVest. "Fewer people doesn’t necessarily mean there isn't business being done, though."
Burton has come to the market to screen "Saint John of Las V... »

'Avatar's' $500 Million Gamble
By the New York Times
Can a movie studio make money on a film based on an original and unfamiliar story, with no Hollywood superstars, a vanishing DVD market and a price tag approaching $500 million?
That question looms large for 20th Century Fox and its 3D science-fiction film “Avatar,” among the most expensive movies ever. But just in case box office receipts for “Avatar” fall short, Fox has worked hard to hedge its large bet on the movie.
Despite the estimated half-billion dollars spent on its production and marketing, “Avatar” may carry surprisingly little ... »

For a few months there, it seemed announcements like these had been slowing down.
Not anymore.
