Henri Padovani's (sticking his tongue out in picture) career has included almost every aspect of the music industry, from co-creating punk rock band The Police to playing guitar, managing, and becoming a record label vice-president, an author and now back to his first love, playing music. Padovani has experienced a lifetime in music, and now filmmaker Lionel Guedj has made the documentary, Rock ‘N' Roll Of Corse about this intriguing figure.   Leaving Corsica, France and arriving in London in 1976, the young Padovani didn't know where the trip would lead to; he just knew that's where the music scene was happening at the time and he loved playing guitar. »

Actor's Wonderland

Having performed in more than 60 Sydney Theatre Company productions, Peter Carroll (in the picture, he's in the middle, with hand on table) is now being recognised for his amazing work in theatre, TV and on the stage.   Australia's performers were unanimous in voting for Mr. Carroll as worthy of the inaugural Equity Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Foxtel. When they were asked whose career they would most like to follow, it was him.   He was nominated by Australian actors and chosen by the National Performers' Committee of Actor's Equity.   In 2009 alone, he has worked on the Sydney Theatre Company's production The Crucible, the Malthouse theatre's Happy Days, Company B's The Book of Everything and Opera Australia's Peter Grimes. »

Meaty Opportunity

The 14 finalists for the Bondi Short Film Festival have been announced, with competitors, audiences and judges now looking ahead to the ceremony which takes place on Saturday, November 28 at Bondi Pavilion.   The competition, now in its ninth year, has attracted a record 250+ entries, with six categories up for grabs: Showtime Best Film, Getty Images Best Cinematography, Firestick Best Actor, Spectrum Film Best Music, Oyster Vision Best Script and Myspace Best Design. The Best Film winner will receive return flights to North America and a Spectrum editing package, among other prizes.   One of this year's entrants, Nick Fogarty, who filmed his short Hamburger Eyes in San Francisco, sees the festival as a great opportunity for budding filmmakers. »

Young Chicks Make Digital Flicks

‘Chick Flicks' is a digital storytelling initiative for young women in Western Sydney. There will be 14 mini films produced by young women from the Hawkesbury region telling stories on what they treasure, love and hope for, and screened at a gala event, and through an ongoing exhibition.   Emily Kemp, a 16-year-old participant in Chick Flicks, says she made a film that was based on her passion for music and performing called With Every Bar.   "I have always had an interest in filmmaking and it was great to create a digital story about my interests," she said. "I think digital filmmaking is a brilliant way to collect memories and journal special parts of your life. »
