The Oprah Winfrey Show: Talk Show Ending after 25 Years
20 November 2009 6:23 PM, PST
There's a big shake-up in daytime television on the way. After 25 years on the air, The Oprah Winfrey Show is coming to an end.
While viewers may be a bit stunned by the news, it doesn't come as a big surprise to the local TV stations who air the show in first-run syndication. Though ratings have fallen in recent years, hitting an all-time low last June, it remains the most popular show in daytime and helps attract viewers to local newscasts. This season's episodes have been averaging a 3.0 rating in the key demo and about 7.3 million viewers daily.
Winfrey's decision to end her daytime talk show is sure to shake up the local affiliate markets. Those who currently carry the series will have to figure out how to best fill the time. For rival stations, they'll have a key »

Trauma: NBC Medical Drama Not Cancelled After All?
19 November 2009 10:17 PM, PST
In a truly strange twist, NBC has ordered three additional episodes of their Monday night medical series, Trauma. The show was confirmed as essentially cancelled late last month when the network opted not to order any additional installments. What happened?
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
Earlier today, Hollywood blogger Nikki Finke reported that NBC was considering ordering three additional installments and that news has now been confirmed.
What isn't clear is the reason why. Finke and several other sources are claiming that the expensive show's ratings have improved. One only needs to look at the numbers to see that's not true. »

Melrose Place: Is Heather Locklear Enough to Save the New Show?
19 November 2009 6:07 AM, PST
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that this week's episode of the new Melrose Place marked the return of Heather Locklear's Amanda. It's also no secret that the new Melrose Place has been struggling in the ratings.
The CW put a lot of promotion into letting TV viewers know that Locklear was coming and hoped that the original series' most memorable character would help save the show.
Unfortunately, it seems like it's a case of "too little, too late." As expected, Tuesday's episode did see a bump in the ratings -- just not a very big one. In the coveted 18-49 demographic, the show registered a 0.8 rating, a slight increase from last week's installment (0.7).
The news was slightly better in the 18-34 demos but still not enough to get excited about. For males and »

The Addams Family: Take a Look at the Broadway Musical Cast
18 November 2009 6:39 PM, PST
We first discussed the new Broadway musical version of The Addams Family back in June 2007. Though the creators said that they intended to base it on the New Yorker cartoons, there are bound to be lots similarities to the classic TV show.
As expected, Nathan Lane (The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd) is playing creepy patriarch Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth (Cheers) is embodying his ever-enchanting wife, Morticia.
Rounding out the family are Kevin Chamberlain (Heroes) as Uncle Fester, Jackie Hoffman (Dilbert) as Grandma, Adam Riegler as son Puglsey, Krysta Rodriguez as daughter Wednesday, and Zachary James as Lurch, the giant butler.
The show is currently playing in Chicago for its out-of-town premiere and is expected to kick off its Broadway run on March 2nd.

Melrose Place: Is Heather Locklear the "Murderer?" What Happened to Peter (Jack Wagner)?
17 November 2009 5:23 PM, PST
This evening marks Heather Locklear's long awaited return to Melrose Place. The producers reportedly tried to cast her in the remake early on but she wasn't interested. She told the La Times, "Before I saw the pilot they had asked me and I thought, 'It's a whole new network, new writers, how do I fit in?'"
Her character was initially going to be the one that was found murdered in the pool. When Locklear turned the part down, they hired Laura Leighton instead, resurrected her Sydney character, and killed her off again.
The producers still hoped that Locklear could be lured to appear on the remake at some point. In fact, the publicity firm where Ella (Katie Cassidy) works is Wpk. They hoped that someday nasty Amanda Woodward could be revealed as the W in the company name. Amanda returns to the firm tonight, »

Friends: Lisa Kudrow Doesn't Think Cast Reunion Will Ever Happen
17 November 2009 11:55 AM, PST
You've heard the rumors for years about why there will or won't be a reunion of our favorite Friends from the 1990s sitcom. Will Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer ever return to Central Perk? Don't count on it.
Kudrow recently spoke to Us at an event in Santa Monica and said that, like most of the cast, she's not sold on the need for a reunion. She said, "It would be fun, but I don't know. How? Why? Really?"
The actress also suggested that the Friends creators -- Marta Kauffman and David Crane -- are the ones who aren't all that interested in getting the gang back together. Kudrow had doubts that it would ever happen and said, "I guess they don't think it's a good idea."
The castmembers are apparently still good »

Gilmore Girls: Series Creator Not Happy with Ending, Still Hoping for a Movie
17 November 2009 10:53 AM, PST
If you're a fan of Gilmore Girls, the dramatic series that starred Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, you might be happy to know that series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino hasn't given up on her plan to make a movie.
EW's Michael Ausiello has had a mini (major, actually) obsession over the idea for sometime and recently re-grilled Sherman-Palladino about the possibility.
The show creator, who left the year before the show ended, isn't happy with the way the series finished in her absence, though she admits she's never actually watched it either. She says, "I wanted different things for Rory... I wanted her to follow a different sort of path… [go] off on her own adventure, which I guess she sort of did. I haven't [actually] seen the last season, but I heard about it from other people."
Sherman-Palladino apparently had »

Melrose Place: There's a Big Original Show Reunion Coming
17 November 2009 9:51 AM, PST
Tonight, Heather Locklear's Amanda returns to Melrose Place. The actress helped to make the original Melrose Place a big success and producers are hoping that lightning will strike again and Locklear can help save the remake. As fun as this return is for fans of the original series, the producers have something even better for the die-hard fans.
Thomas "Michael" Calabro has been appearing regularly since the start of the series. He and Locklear are already set to be in the show for the rest of the season. Daphne "Jo" Zuniga and Josie "Jane" Bissett have each appeared in previous episodes. Overall, the interaction between the original show castmembers has been minimal.
Now, Us has learned that an upcoming scene will reunite Zuniga, Bissett, Calabro, and Locklear together onscreen. What's more, they'll be standing in the courtyard of the famous apartment complex. »

The Wanda Sykes Show: Second Week Decline; Cancel or Keep It?
16 November 2009 6:21 PM, PST
Stand-up comic and actress Wanda Sykes recently unveiled her vision of a Saturday night talk show. Is it a keeper or should she stick to The New Adventures of Old Christine?
The Wanda Sykes Show is a late night talk show that airs once a week. It's hosted by Sykes and her trademark biting wit to a monologue, skits, and interviews. Comedian Keith Robinson co-stars as her sidekick.
The show debuted on November 7th to a 2.2 household rating. According to Variety, that placed the Wanda Sykes premiere 16% higher than the average of MADtv a year earlier (1.9/4) and double the performance of Talk Show with Spike Feresten from last winter (1.1/2).
The first episode was also in part competing against the highest-rated episode of Saturday Night Live of the season.
Last Saturday's episode wasn't quite »
